The title is very misleading. Tesla hasn't hired assembly line workers yet. They are in the BIW robot calibration and pilot build phase.

We still have 3 more months of waiting folks.

How do you know who Tesla has hired? Or who they shifted from one line to another?

The title is fine. Trucks are moving… very slowly… through the production line, carefully guided by the programmers and engineers in each respective area.. Fleshing out the meat bags to hand bits and fix tools for the robots comes when production speed is fast enough the engineers can hand it off to the line workers.

and on what basis do you know that?

Tesla itself has said it’s expecting release candidates end of August

and release candidates aren’t even “production”

unless we’re all just getting to use our own untethered definitions of “production” here

in which case I’ll go with sometime before November 2019

Q3 delivery baby
Same here

earlier this year, Musk said they hoped to have a delivery event end of Q3

since then, Tesla has told suppliers not to expect release candidates until end of August

I see no path to get from there to delivery event in a ~month.

Not that it couldn’t happen, but instead that in light of more recent information holding on instead to this comment from Musk, of all things, seems a weak footing

if you were starting a new line at an existing plant.. would you

a> hire nubs off the street that know NOTHING about working at the plant
b> move people from the existing lines to the new line and hire nubs for the existing lines where knowledgeable people can train them??

I am betting tesla's option is b and the new cyberTruck line will almost be exclusivly existing workers from the model Y lines.

Also, I doubt they have line workers at this point. It’s engineers and team leaders walking it thorough step by step.

But yeah, shifting staff internally makes the most sense. You cherry pick your best workers for the new line.

I will be curious to see what the initial Cybertruck fit and finish looks like. Early YT posters will be sure to tell the world about body panel misalignment, etc.

Sounds like Tesla is shutting down the Model Y production, removing their swing shift (as they did in Berlin), and upgrading the Model Y line to make it more efficient.

They are using the workers freed up in this process—some of us saw this coming—to start Cybertruck production.
