Tesla keeps the media and public guessing and gets free media exposure every time the CT is taken out in public.

It’s highly unlikely that is the production rear LED light bar. We are still months away from CT release candidates.

we will know more on Jul 19 when they do 2'nd quarter results .. however not sure why you would think we are MONTHS from a release candidate... Elon stated a turn over event at the end of 3'rd quarter.. that is in LESS than 90 days...

I am assuming that they aren't going to turn over release candidates but actual production cars... that means they need to run the production line enough to have enough for the event and probrably enough to ship some .. i am assuming that will take 6 weeks of the 90 days.. assuming it will take another month to pick a valid release candidate.. we have ONE month till we have release candidates maybe less.

All of the early trucks will be going to Tesla employees and suppliers. Joe public early reservation holders probably won’t see their trucks until December or January. I predict early production is going to be very slow.

that all depends on how you want to define “production”

handover event for Model X was ~4 months before the first “production” model for retail rolled off the line

as Tesla has stated it expects to have RCs end of August, a delivery event held a month later almost certainly aren’t final production vehicles, nor would it be likely there would be any production vehicles ready for retail

“Release candidates” in Tesla Silicon Valley speak seems to correlate to a “production validation” unit - built largely by the production line, but for “validation” purposes - e.g., not just of the line itself, but also service procedure development, final field testing, PR/photography, etc.

it’s completely plausible the handover event are to understanding insiders who are happy to take on release candidate units, just as software adopters are happy to take them on

no release candidates exist as of yet, and it would be more surprising for Tesla to have production units by end of September than it would be for the handover event to include release candidate units

but like I said, folks appear to have various definitions of what a “production” vehicle is

The CHMSL must be on the vehicle’s rear center line, at least 34" from the ground. In addition, the lamp must be red. It seems the tailgate light in the center there in the pictures has an additional light though it is not illuminated when braking here for some reason. At least, it LOOKS like the light strip across the tailgate contains a section that is differently colored as if there are lights there.

A higher light is not necessary if the tail lights are high enough.

I can't wait to see the aftermarket stuff people come out with. Front, top, and back light strips, and maybe someone will duplicate/improve the "shovel rack" in the back Elon showed at the last groundbreaking

'Cause it's visually more striking, and required in every other country?

Interesting that some personal preferences go both ways with and without the amber turn signals..Personally, i enjoy the sleek one/two-color taillights that US cars have without integrating an amber piece of plastic in there (i enjoy this on all vehicles).

Didn't Elon confirm it is going to be a US-only vehicle hence the not required amber turn signals?

A CRAZY amount of aftermarket doodads... given the 48 volt Power of Ethernet (if that is what it truly is) will make it easy to have software controlled lights, winches, inflatable bed campers, etc.

But I just realized what I want, the edges done in a soft blue electroluminescent tape or wire...
