It makes logical sense as the Quad would be the flagship of the Cybertruck trims. The move would be similar to Rivian. They launched their Quad Motor first and followed up with a Dual Motor version at a later date.

If the rumor turns out to be true I predict Tesla targeted over 835 HP to one up the Quad Motor Rivian R1T.

If this prediction comes to fruition I expect the Quad Motor MSRP to be around 15% higher than the Tri Motor $69,990 reveal pricing announced in late 2019 (just under $80k).

My concern regarding the cybertruck is that Tesla may cancel or delay the release of the 500-mile variant, citing the adequacy of the "300-mile" version. There are several reasons why this decision could be plausible:

1. Price considerations: By offering only the lower-range version, Tesla can keep the prices lower, making the cybertruck more accessible to a wider range of customers.

2. Addressing immediate demand: Since there may be a significant number of customers waiting for the 500-mile variant, some of them might opt to switch to the lower-range version or even cancel their orders if it becomes the only available option. This would help Tesla manage the immediate demand more effectively.

3. Managing overall demand: Introducing the lower-range version would enable Tesla to fulfill deliveries for customers who are content with the cheaper option, thus easing the strain on production and logistics.

4. Facilitating the transition: Temporarily focusing on the lower-mileage version allows Tesla to gradually increase production capacity and fine-tune the manufacturing process before scaling up to the higher-mileage variant. It also avoids obsoleting existing models (such as the Model X) and sets the stage for a future lineup refresh with longer ranges across the board.

For skeptics who doubt the possibility, it's worth noting that Tesla has previously made similar decisions with the Plaid and Plaid Plus versions of their vehicles.

These are just my thoughts on the matter. I do have a tri motor reservation... so i hope im wrong

I'll just add from my experience with multiple Teslas and a Rivian.
Rivian R1T estimate of 315 Miles in "Normal" mode equates to an actual 315 Miles (if not better) @ 65mph... Model X 250miles estimate equates to ~200 miles.
So if Tesla publishes 350 Mile CT, that would not be a mileage upgrade, but a loss in my opinion. Even a 400 mile Tesla would probably be "equivalent" to my R1T. Again, my experience.

"
"range" is a stupid number, as it can not be predicted. what we need are two numbers: capacity and efficiency. EPA should make a new metric for EVs, how much energy used per mile in specific conditions (ex: flat, 65mph, cloudy weather) , since it is so much easier to measure accurately these days

What if it was a 350mi rated range at full load (semi range was given at full load)? Maybe they are launching with long range quad or tri motor with a 220-250kWh battery and ~600mi unloaded range.
Nah completely inefficient... not Tesla's style.

You can say the exact same for the truck.... like how many people really tow with a truck...not many. Tesla is shooting for the masses not edge cases.

Your definition "full-sized pickup truck" is capricious and arbitrary ("towing and carrying loads more than 150-180 miles"). With less range, you stop to charge more often. The same thing is true for ICE trucks.

If a 350-mile CT reveals for $29k, Ford and Chevy will never sell another EV truck. Price matters more than anything.
You give too much credit to humanity LOL. I mean there are actual people who purchased a Mazda MX-30 in Canada which costs more than a Model 3 but has less range, features, and is slower. Why? Because Elon bad. :ROFLMAO:

Tesla has always usually offered the highest-profit models first which is what I was hoping for (I ordered the Tri-motor) but given how they have been only too glad to cut pricing on their other models lately, this strategy may have changed ever since Elon said he is willing to sacrifice margin in order to gain volume...yikes.

I still think it's going to be 350 mile dual motor or tri motor for the initial. 450 mile version "coming soon" which means 2-3 years away and could be canceled like plaid +.That could be tri or quad.

3 people told me confidentially that the first cybertrucks will have 500 miles of range.

See? I can do it too. You can trust me because I have a twitter account, a tesla, and sometimes have a beard.
Did you have a beard when you typed this?!? I'm only going to believe you if you had a beard AT THAT MOMENT. ?

Wouldn't it be just like Elon to say at the employee delivery event:

"Our first batch of CyberTrucks will only have 350 miles of range."

"Oh... and one more thing... That's while towing 14,000 lbs."

Tesla has not always offered the highest-profit / highest-spec models first.

For Model 3 they launched with the LR RWD, and AWD and Performance were not available for about 3/4ths of a year.

For Model Y, Performance and LR AWD both released at around the same time I believe.

I just want to point this out, because a lot of people believe that Tesla always launches the most expensive vehicle first, and its not factually correct.

It would be correct to say Tesla does not release the cheapest models at launch (short range RWD configurations). I don't think they have ever done that, but they don't really have a consistent history of offerring their highest spec at launch.
