I think it’s the result of making it fit into a garage.
Which kinda sucks that people wanted that in the first place. Because of all vehicles out there, the Cybertruck doesn't need no stinking garage!

the volume of the object with dimensions 66 inches(long) × 16 inches(deep) × 24 inches(wide) is approximately 415.8455 liters.

Am I out by a lot ?
I suspect that you are close, maybe even a bit low. That is about 16 cubic feet.

I believe on the quarterly earnings call Elon said it would be at least 6 feet, he didn't specify it would be only 6 feet, exactly. I'm guessing it's around 6'-03", measured along the bottom of the bed to the tailgate. The best part is we will know soon enough!
Ha ha, whatever :)

So, the dimensions of 66 inches long, 16 inches deep, and 24 inches wide is approximately 14.67 cubic feet.

Im just going by my broad observation,
80" wide ?
7 inches for fendor / trims on each side = 66" long
looks less wide than a wheel., 24" wide
I reckon 16" deep ?

Lightnings 400 litres (14.1 cubit ft.) is a benchmark of sorts....
My measurements obviously not accurate, but how far off ? Seems the CT is more closer to 400 litres than what we have been thinking.

No, because the stuff in the cybertruck is optional. They could produce an electric truck like the F150 and not have an air suspension, HEPA filter, 4WS, retractable bed cover, quad motor, etc. These components have to be located somewhere. Take them out/move them and there would be more space in the Frunk.

There is some frunk space compromise due to the shape of the car, for sure. And also due to the design decisions to maximize bed length while reducing overall length. But there's still a lot of space between the driver and the frunk. They just decided it was the best place to stick stuff.
All those items you listed also fit in the M3 which has a way smaller front section than the CT.
They are using about 6-700l of volume under the dash according to the latest frunk photos. That's the same as the MY trunk volume as a comparison.

I really don't know what they need all that space for honestly. Maybe we will get some in dash storage that is loaded from the top?

BTW the air suspension is mounted on the outside of the wheel arch, it would only be a pressure reservoir and compressor on the inside, but they need not be big and can be easily integrated into even ICE engine bays.

I think it will be under 400l if those tubs are the ones they end up using. Probably around 320-350l from a rough visual comparison in my old CAD model.

I like the large frunk opening, but I don't think the height of the volume will be full utilised without a shelf or drawer or something. Nothing hard for an aftermarket product to achieve, but I can only imagine people stacking shopping bags in there and to have them all move to the front whilst braking, then when you open the frunk they just all fall and slide out. In a trunk everything normally slides forwards which is fine when you open the rear of the vehicle. I suppose the trick will be to do a hard acceleration before you stop slowly and open it?

The other thing I'm interested in is how they are going about sealing the frunk to keep it weather proof, but also mostly for amphibious mode to stop the frunk from filling up with water whilst fording etc. now that the lip is so low.

Yep, its not just volume, but usable volume is more important.

Also, the size of the base area is probably more relevant to most people rather than total volume area.

It seems that in the end they gave priority to CT fitting in a garage. I'd rather have a midgate. However I understand that people recharging at home would be bummed if their CT does not fit in a garage. It makes sense to shrink the overall size (and the frunk, accordingly) to allow this (and sell more CTs)

I’d cut like…. 8 inches from that wide measurement by my guesses

it’s all thermal

apparently, uniquely beefy thermal

perhaps that large windshield etc did prove to create some greenhouse effects needing uniquely beefy thermal?

Basically, you are admitting that you are not in the market for a full-sized truck!

Nothing wrong with that, there are a lot of other options in the market. In America, full-sized trucks sell very well, and that form factor doesn't fit in a typical garage very well or not at all. They still sell in the millions per year.

My point was that the Cybertruck doesn't need to be in a garage to prevent hail damage , rust or clearcoat damage due to intense UV rays and high temperatures, and, as far as comfort, it can be pre-cooled/pre-heated before you get in. With the 24-foot reach of the Wall Connector, and a charge port designed for charging in all weather conditions, a garage is not a "must-have" for the Cybertruck (unless you make it one).

the best approximation for the relative footprint *at the upper opening* can be seen in this photo, paying attention to the sealing ring of the hood’s underside (the red ring)

Tesla Cybertruck New leaked video! Many Cybertrucks production completed w/ new wheel design + finished frunks! 18EBAB5E-AFC3-4A11-9339-ED43174D0507

Note that the width of the CT’s at the hood is narrower than the CT’s max width (which occurs towards the rear of the CT), let’s call it for giggles 75”, with let’s call it 8” inward from both sides, so say 59” wide (comporting with @greggertruck ’s eyeball)

Noting also that the footprint of the upper opening is also unlikely to be mirrored in the floor of the tub (which is likely a bit narrower)

This is the most generous upper/lower footprint I can muster, but will be happy to be off

I just don’t think it’s off by 2X?
