You wouldn't be able to fit that full-sized power pack in the front of a model 3
On it's side, I certainly could. I have a Coleman "party stacker" cooler that I keep in the Model 3 frunk, and it's much, much larger than even my largest Rockpals power pack.

Look, I'm a huge Tesla fan. I was at the Cybertruck reveal, and lost my voice hollering with excitement. But unless they've hidden some storage space under the rear seat, Tesla missed a huge opportunity with storage space in the Cybertruck. The Ford Lightning funk is massive. 14 cubic feet. A member of the mob would only need to make one trip to the river.

Maybe the RC design is slightly smaller but it'll be much more usable now that they went with the Lightning style.
Cybertruck with it's smaller but more aero frunk will have much higher range than Lightning and because of that higher efficiency when you do charge it will be at higher rate (miles/hour).

I will take the Cybertruck's efficiency over a Lightning that is pushing a huge barn (frunk) through the air.

Tesla missed a huge opportunity with storage space in the Cybertruck.
I mean, it’s not like they “missed” it by leaving a dead space void where nothing exists

they choose, eg, a lot of climate control equipment to be there instead, to make it 4” shorter in length, and to despite that shorter length nonetheless use 6”+ more of that available length as vault

Basically, they made a decision that garagability, a robust climate control system, and having a 6’ bed would be more valuable than a 2X sized frunk

seems a reasonable calculation/compromise

Look at the front of the truck in this GIF. The frunk depth certainly was changed.

Definitely not coined by Tesla - it's been used to refer to the frunks on pretty much anything mid/rear-engined forever
e.g. My mom's Corvair... the front trunk was not called a frunk - hardly matters anyway.

where was this energy when for the last 4 years this forum was packed with “CT Frunk going to dwarf the Lightning’s” “CT Frunk going to be HUGE!!” Etc?

you’re maybe not doing a pivot (I don’t know what you used to say about frunks), but as a class the forum has gone from “it’ll make Lightning Frunk look like a small joke” to one of either:

“I’m disappointed it’s not as big as I was told by people who turned out to not know”

or

“why should anyone care about a Frunk (that for 4 years I’ve been championing as being huge)

personally, I own a Lightning and don’t care much that the CT Frunk will be 1/2 the volume. Both because I never bought the “it’ll be huge” salesmanship, so I’m not disappointed, and also because what the CT Frunk “lacks” compared to lightning it makes up for with other features not on the Lightning.

so, boils down to, what’s the price …

I've never really had an opinion one way or another when it came to the frunk on any vehicle. Unless it can carry junk my wife finds on Nextdoor, it doesn't matter. My biggest appeal for the cybertruck was that it was designed from the ground up to be an EV and it was a truck. Am i going to use it as a work truck? Nope. Am I going rock crawling? nope. I'll use it to pick up that occasional king size bed I didn't know we needed or to go on an impromptu picnic down a dirt road in the mountains. In my mind, cybertruck is a truck. end of story. it has a bed to haul crap. I could care less about the frunk as i have gone 30 years without one and I do just fine. I just need the bed to haul junk that will undoubtedly be replaced in 6 months.

the Frunk is not on the outside / in the aero package

the decision regarding internal packaging are irrelevant to the aero
Tesla could have gotten more frunk space by making the front of the Cybertruck taller, longer, and with less slope in the lid/hood which would affect aero.

well, saying *you* don’t care about a frunk is pretty unrelated to your original assertion as to not understanding why anyone else would

personally, I’ve also driven 1/2 ton trucks for 30 years before getting my lighting over a year ago - and the Frunk has been one of the best things about it.

glad the CT will have one, too.

you’ll find out in 2024/2025 when Ford’s first ground-up BEV truck platform is announced/produced

And while it’s true the Lightning is on the F150 platform, what’s Chevy’s excuse?

regardless, I don’t understand the point

saying eg “why does Ford get credit for making that space useable and utilization” seems to have an obvious answer

because it’s usable and utilitarian

and you seem to be missing that the CyberTruck is exactly an example of what you’re critiquing:

there is just as much space between the dashboard and bumper of the CT as there is in the Lightning

the CT’s is just used to house a lot of equipment

and that’s just fine

I think certain manufacturers have in their mind what a truck is supposed to look like as they have been designed that way for almost a 100 years. based on pics we have seen of comparisons between front lengths between vehicles, they appear to be similar, but the CT slopes down significantly more and is more aerodynamic overall. should Tesla have sacrificed interior volume, bed length, aerodynamics, and efficiency just to make a larger frunk?

I think your argument that finding a space and making it useable is misguided. There was an engine there. Now the engine is gone. What the hell else were they going to do with it?

that’s not what you said

it’s a logic thing

Tesla did not say “let’s be aerodynamic, so we’ll have a small frunk” nor did they say “unless we have a small Frunk, we can’t be aerodynamic”

No more than Ford said, “let’s have a large Frunk so that we’re not aerodynamic”

Did they put the Horn back in the center of the wheel/yoke!!? ??
Tesla Cybertruck Closeups!! Dual Motor Cybertruck shows frunk open, alcantara headliner, perforated seats, rectangular steering wheel, VIN # (8/31 pics) IMG_1534

Kinda Looks like the horn symbol you find on your steering wheel.
Really am not onboard with the capacitive button on the side for the horn.

it *is* more aerodynamic, but the front volumes are nearly identical between a CT and an F150

it is not a VW bus with the driver over the front axel

the CT has every bit of the same amount of “hood” as the Lightning, the only difference is that 1/2 of the CT “hood” is behind the windshield

Note that the corresponding designation reflects the category: eg “Towing” category has the designation “TW01”, “Battery” category has the designation “BT46”, “Bed” category has the designation “BD01”

so second line:

Off-Road = OR00 (off road variant 00)
?? = RD08
Drive = DR4W (Drive variant 4-wheel)

third line:

?? = IC03 (your guess is good, but “IC”?)
?? = SA02 (your guess is good w/ “seats”)
Wheels = WHDB

Some of the other variants are so obvious (eg DR4W) it makes one wonder what Batter variant “46” could be

460 miles?
“Battery” category has the designation “BT46” - 4680 cells

i think i can express my frustration with people comparing the CT frunk to a Ford frunk without caring about frunks in general. I am pointing out that they are two different vehicles with two different design philosophies.

i am glad you are happy with your lightning and the frunk that it has to offer. I think Ford making EVs is great in general, i just think they have some catching up to do.
