Ahh, good, thank goodness we don't make our roads out of minerals made of hard crystals like quartzite and granite.

Oh, wait...

I guess Elon said he might be able to offer it as an option to make the truck scratch proof to anything below diamond. Jerry rig everything scratch test anyone?

"We might be able to offer an optional tungsten carbide coating, which is basically scratch-proof to everything below diamond hardness"

Sounds OK..... however, the best process is no process. I won't be frying eggs on the Frunk. o|o

quartzite hardness is 7 on mohs, and granite is 6. Tungsten carbide is 9.

Add gold plating as an option while we're at it

So make it super hard then cover it in gold.... I suppose gold leaf would be easy to repair. Costly but easy.

I find this quote from the site to be very confusing:
Learn more about how Carbinite increases friction, reduces wear, and allows for a smooth or sliding surface.
Friction tends to increase wear so how does increased friction work with reduced wear?
Friction also tends to reduce smooth sliding so how does increased friction allow for smooth or sliding surface?

That's the total mineral, not the constituent crystals. Rocks are harder than cement, etc.

-Crissa
But level 9 hard?

Yes? Otherwise you've never need to replace your drill tips.

-Crissa
I think drill tips are a little different because of the heat and pressure but i have no idea.

Nahhhhhhhh

Otherwise, I’d NEVER have to sharpen a saw blade, or a chisel, or a drill bit, or a plane iron. And I’m working with WOOD and STEEL tools. Most of the table saw blades are carbide tipped!

Just use the windshield laser wiper.
Brilliant. One of early reservation holders need to strap a laser pen to their BAW , run it in fog and post the video here.

Friction tends to increase wear so how does increased friction work with reduced wear?
Not sure what they were thinking. May be they are talking about friction on the side that is touching the surface of the metal; to increase the grip of the coating.
