Having lived in Cali for years, I believed simply driving it around Cali's polluted environment with the vault opened, will get it that dirty...?
Wow and now carbon capture ?

True that. Like my first weekend visit to my GF in the Redondo Beach (from the central coast) mid 80s..... Car was covered in soot when I left....

How about just a pop off rear window secured with a couple of latches? Easy peasy. Tesla can offer this later on or any aftermarket vendor can retro-fit one, so long as the rear window is not functioning as a structural component.
Anyone care to suggest this to Elon on X?
I'm sure the rear window is designed to replaced without too much effort, probably about the same work as replacing the fixed rear window in any other pickup.

The aftermarket already sells removable windows and sliding windows for all the major pickup models.

Like this: https://breezerwindows.com/

Or this: https://www.carid.com/cr-laurence/

Some aftermarket vendor will add the Cybertruck's rear window specs to their lineup eventually. Maybe pretty quickly as the production rate ramps up.

Or silver reflective plastic???

Really kinda wish the L-trac was also on the floor, to allow for "jigs" to be secured for holding stuff. Sure, I can still build something that locks to the L-trac and then goes down the side.....
Well when we get our Cybertrucks and you build something
Wait.

I have a use case for you.

Opening the window while driving.

Seems pretty straight forward 2 me.

I'd even go for a sliding window like my ancient silveraydo had
yeah I was only weighing in on the prior camping suggestion

I get it. I’ve envied the Toyota rear for a long time

I suppose, though, the Toyota window is at least 2X taller, and not (regularly?) covered by a vault ??ā€ā™‚

That’s odd. I lived in Redondo for 17 years and NEVER once had that problem…

Well, when it was windy the cars and house would get dusty from the kicked up beach sand, but NEVER soot. You are talking about 10 years before I moved there, the old electric plant off of Beryl Ave might have still been working then. But really, SoCal pollution is pretty non-existent these days. Oh wait, don’t move here, I mean, yes, it’s horrible! We wore masks before 2020! Yeah, that’s it, it’s worse than Shanghai!

possible emissions got cleaner in those 10 years? ?

another anecdote: (aftermoving to Denver in ā€˜87)
Good friend went to the doctor (don’t remember the issue), they took x-rays. Doctor: how long have you been smoking?

Friend:never

Doctor: where did you grow up?

Friend: LA

Doctor: oh that explains it….

To be fare. The pollution issues has alot to do with how the city is located in a basin with mountains all around it, trapping all the nasty stuff. When the Santa Ana kicks up, can either illeviate or exacerbate the issue. I like to remember Cali in the enclosed picture taken on a hill behind my house. That year (2008), only 19 days out of the year where I can see Mt Baldy on the left and Arrowhead springs on the right, sigh...

Ok, I’ve lived in SoCal for just over, well, since birth. (And I remember my Dad waking us up for the moon landing) And I grew up in RB and Torrance. Both my parents (still alive, about to turn 85) have lived in SoCal since WWII. My brother and sister have lived here since birth. Not one of us has ever smoked, and not one of us has anything on a chest X-ray. And my mother-in-law has lived here since the late 40’s (and she is still alive and kicking, driving, living alone at 98) And since the original comment was about how bad the pollution ā€isā€ and not ā€œwasā€. And I’ve owned 13 cars while living here, and have NEVER had them covered in soot. (got some ash on them after a couple of wildfires) And I generally leave at least one car outside right now. And I owned cars and lived a few miles east of RB in the mid 80’s.

Based on all that, I’d say the assertions here might begin to verge on a bit of an exaggeration. SoCal has itā€˜s issues, but the ā€œsmogā€ and soot ain’t one of them. But just like ā€œBEVs are ALWAYS catching on fire.ā€ And ā€œBEVs are actually worse for the environment than ICE carsā€ And ā€œBEVs are twice as much as a ’normal’ car and when the batter dies you won’t be able to afford a new one.ā€ And all the other propaganda, that’s all this is, propaganda. It makes for great jokes and gets the media’s attention. But hey, you all can believe whatever you want. Truth is, it IS expensive here. Just like it is up by you in SLO, or Paso, or on the coast at Morro Bay.

Come down sometime and let’s consume an adult beverage in my wood shop, currently located where most people park their cars!

I think living by or near the coast makes a world of difference. I used to live in Fontucky for years. The story is different there.
