If the required production energy is derived from renewables, then the product is still carbon-neutral. Making hydrocarbons by removing CO2 from the air is much better proposition than burning the underground carbon that's been sequestered for 100 million years.It takes alot of energy to make. And some of it escapes into the atmosphere. They will probably try to balance their production emissions (if it gets that far) with alot of trading of dodgy carbon credits.

Of course, it will never achieve price parity with oil until that source becomes far more scarce.
