I find people seem to either make specific decisions that make their trips actively worse, or deny the charging opportunities that actually exist.I don't know why we're fighting because I generally like your posts, but -- I live here, in this state, and camp 1x/month or more for 9 months of the year. I've put 90k miles on EVs since 2018 driving around Michigan, and I am very first-hand intimately familiar with the charging situation here.
This comment makes you come off as an ass who doesn't actually understand the details of the situation you dismiss with a misleading Plugshare screenshot.
If you earnestly believe that northern Michigan has adequate fast charging to support regular travel in EVs, and are interested in understanding why it it might not be as easy as a glance at a screen cap looks - lets have the convo. But...if you just want to drop incorrect one-liners, I'm not going to waste the time.
These two maps are at the same scale.
At every place I camped along that yellow line, there was a Tesla 3 and/or Y also camping.
Why? Because they have the range to do those hops.
This is why I don't get the complaints. Especially not from people 'going to a cabin' or camping where there's power. Because I only do primitive camping. Ya know, no water or power.
Yeah, I don't have a Tesla yet - because I can only afford to buy the one, I'm waiting for the truck - but I have friends who've had Leafs and Bolts and now have Teslas and similar. My winter tires went up to BC camping along the way on a Leaf. I know what the limitations are.
Did you plug in the route and speed that you were going to take? It can't estimate well without that information.I rented a model Y last month on a trip to Texas, this is my second trip renting a Tesla for a family trip. The first thing I noticed is how far off the actually miles per charge is compared to the claims. We never got within 100 miles of the claimed mileage. (Under normal driving condition) As well as the cost to charge at the super chargers which were equal o 24 mpg. So when Tesla puts out these claimed towing ranges and weights, I have very little faith in the accuracy.
The faster you go, the worse your efficiency.
