Or he picked a heavier vehicle that he thought could deliver more damage to his targets. We're generally not talking about rocket scientists here, but rather people that have been radicalized into believing they're doing God's work by killing innocent people and themselves.
Comparing ICE F-150 vs Lightning, 1,500 to 2,500 lbs higher curb weight roughly, 0-60 5.3 sec best ICE engine vs 3.8 sec for the Lightning.

Both the weight and the acceleration letting one go faster in a short space allow it to be more of a weapon if that's one's intent.

Be very glad the Cyberfool didn't try something like that with a CB, at roughly 7,000 lbs and 2.6 sec 0-60.

I think that's a pretty fair assumption, but I also think that the Cybertruck was able to direct the blast upwards because it was a seemingly fairly weak device.
You know, I realize that a military trained guy, "Timothy McVie", example, would have known how to build a real incendiary device. Though, how discreet that person is or experience is an unknown, it is evident that the bomb was not that powerful. Still, there is no question that for the power that was involved in the explosion, another vehicle would not have withstood it that well in the same class. I don't think the bomber made the statement they were actually trying to achieve. (will be very interesting when the identity is known?)

A cannon could have a weather cover but still direct a blast pretty well.

A nuclear test back in 1957 involving a warhead in a covered vertical shaft sent the 1 ton cover if not quite into space, at least very high indeed. Directed blast, although that wasn't the intent of the test.

The tonneau cover, although strong enough to stand on, was substantially weaker than the sides of the bed, so that's the way the blast went. That, and into the cabin, since with the tonneau cover closed, the rear window, even if tough laminated glass, would be exposed and would just contribute to the shrapnel.

Better to have gotten the perp alive and interrogated him, but his identity is reportedly known, and he probably left enough of a digital and paper trail that there won't be that much more info that a live perp could have provided. Anyone stupid enough to use an easily trackable vehicle and not turn off data reporting probably wasn't keeping a seriously low profile.

It is an absolutely heinous attack. If the a..hole were driving a CT, all of the headlines would forget about the 10 people died and report it with a blame on CT.
The A Hole died inside the truck when it went off.

During the police conference, they said the driver detonated the device from the drive seat. He also had gasoline in the bed with the fireworks.

AC outlet in bed which would normally be active when vehicle is driving or occupied, but could be turned off before plugging in detonator only to be turned on later.

Not saying that's what he did, but I wonder. The video of the bed had a station chyron over where the outlet would be, so I didn't see one way or the other.

I believe he was reffering to the F150 lightning and the New Orleans attack.

This was not what I would call a bomb - it certainly was not designed to do much damage outside of any vehicle - so it's not really surprising there wasn't much destructive power directed outside. Based on what is known, this seems like a suicide with a political statement attached.

How is it not... a bomb? I can't believe you just made me look up the definition of "bomb" at 3 am. ?

I sure hope this was not the trucks fault. Can someone explain how fireworks spontaneously ignite? I've used fireworks for 30 years, stored them, transported them, And they've never just "gone off"
Recent news reports indicate that this may have been intentional, and one very important fact is glaringly obvious, the hard SS shell of the CT contained the explosion, the glass entry doors did not even shatter. Warning to the bad guys, the CT is not a good selection for a possible bomb attack, Also, Elon has stated the truck's telemetry indicated that everything was performing normally until the explosion...it was a rented vehicle.
