My guess is you won't even notice it as a different part of the battery. It'll be seen less integration.

And because it goes into the hatch area, it likely will need service center installation and should be sealed properly. But who knows

I would much rather see it bolt under the truck with some skid plates and reduce that 17” clearance by 4”. Really if they designed it right, a homeowner could probably use some kind of specialized Jack to roll it under the truck and clamp it under there then unclamp it and roll it in the garage for later
But if it was part of the battery pack, like EVERY other BEV, you couldn't add or remove it at will. If they announced a "470 mile extended range version" at the event that just had a bigger pack, no one would be asking why it doesn't detach and become part of their power wall or why they can't add it to their Model whatever, or...

It is what it is. Our choices are "take it" or "leave it". Just from the stats, 50+% (of those that could have afforded it) won't financially have a choice and will "leave it". the remaining <50% will have to decide. I'd guess a number of them will say no as well. 2 years from now, the price might drop (more than once) and the original 50% might have the choice again.

My biggest observation is that it appears the numbers all went up $30k. That’s pretty rough. $79k for what appears to be a dual motor. I wonder if these numbers will last a year then start dropping.
Do you remember what Rivian did when they increased the prices to the reservation holders. I guess it would be against Musk's ethos to cave to pressure over something as insignificant as money- FU.

I am an Elon fanboy but he has lost touch with his consumers.

Also notice they didn't announce the prices- Elon was afraid he would be booed by the audence.

They always start out expensive. Just making it was part of the mission statement to displace ICE vehicles. If they get the prices down eventually (which they have done with ALL their models), it will align even more with the statement. It’s a long game.

They came in real high on the prices. Going to scare off a lot of buyers. I reserved in 2019 so I guess I’ll be getting an email soon.
not unless you reserved in the first week. There were 200 k reservations in the first week (I was the second day and I am 125 k) and It will take over a year to make 200 k, depending on the multiple reservations and cancellations.

Putting the prices and range on the web site but not mentioning it at the event was pretty weird. It’s like breaking up with a girlfriend with a text message lol
Elon was afraid he would get booed, his ego is pretty fragile for a genius/ billionaire

After 4 years of waiting and tons of speculation, if this is all correct, this will likely have me going elsewhere for an EV Truck.

That is unless, by the time my number comes up, that Tesla gets in the world of reality, on pricing!
Back into 'Hurry-up & Wait' mode. :(

The Rwd is incredible value relative to the other specs.
I have a 2018 RWD M3 (only model available in 2018) and I will never drive another RWD vehicle in snow in Canada, especially a pick up which has less weight over the rear wheels (less of a problem in EVs)

It also defeats the purpose of off roading so it only makes sense if you are only driving in the city and avoiding the bullets of gang bangers and road ragers.

61k for truck that doesn't even have 4 wheel drive? RWD trucks in this day and age shouldn't exist, bit pointless.

The slower speed and less range is expected but the drive is killer for a truck.

Of course they start out expensive but Not only it's 40 to 50% more expensive, it's 36% less range!

Imagine gets raped and being proposed for marriage at the same time.
