Actually this is a pretty sweet deal.

You get to drive the Foundation Edition now, then sell it before the year is up, back to Tesla, and get yourself a normal retail version, without the decals (which you can get etched yourself), and they have to pay you back more than a new Beast CT is worth.

Why not. A "free" truck delivered now (for 1st year), and a bonus refund at the end if you don't drive to many miles, and a new Retail truck without the bugs, at the end of the year.

Can I take two please?

(Or are they going to do a "no re-buyers clause" to stop this? ? )

You have clearly never traded a used Tesla to Tesla! Typical values Tesla offers for a year old Model S/X are 30-60% below the price paid, in my experience.

I would be shocked if they offered anyone the sale price minus just the $0.25/mile driven for the CT.

Well it depends on if you pay cash for the Foundation version, if so no interest applies, so the math would be:

Buy Foundation now $122,335
Minus miles driven and return undamaged: 10,000mile x $0.25 = $2500
Sell it before year is up, back to for Tesla = $122,335 - $2500 = $119,835
Buy new Retail CT TM (with an existing order to avoid delays) = $119,835 - $99,990 = $19, 845 refund.

(**) Use $19,845 left over towards your new TM CT so it only costs you $99,990 - $19,845 = $80,145 (**)

Plus you got to drive a Foundation series for 1 year for $2500!

Mmmmmmm, now numbers I can understand. You might get "fine print"-ed by Tesla if you try this. I'm not so desperate, but I'm interested in your experience! Let me know how it goes!

Although my post above is a little bit cheeky with the math in the (**) line, which is essentially you giving yourself your money back to reduce the second purchase price (!), the rest of it is actually what the Tesla contract is offering.

They can of course say you can sell it elsewhere, leaving you to the whims of the market at that time, but that might be still within a period of over demand, meaning the CT will still go for a premium and quite possibly higher than what you paid for a limited edition.

The worst that can happen is you decide to keep it and forfeit the "cool deal" the Tesla legal department is now offering you.

Now if they drop the price by $10k in that year, or you double dip the tax rebate through two purchases, you could actually be getting paid to drive and use the CT for a year....
