I got my F150 Lightning for $44K, sold it for $56K after 4 or 5 months driving it. Maybe you can do the same? BTW I'm 3rd on list for a Spyder RS at a dealership and not sure if my CT or RS will come first, can't wait for either one.

Looks like I stirred the pot. I drop into a lot of forums because I'm interested in a lot of cars. The 'use the search' is such a put off because: I always use the search, and forums searches are almost always non-functional. The two things I pulled out of this are 1) look at other electric vehicles, the window to get over MSRP is small, and 2) Tesla is a mass produced car, not really the space for ADM. I appreciate the enthusiasm for the CT, and also believe it to be a revolutionary vehicle. I also don't have space for another car right now, and never thought we'd be waiting 4+years so I moved on.
Thank you for giving up your reservation slot (if you did) and you are correct, the search function here is ... mostly non-functional. To reply to your original question, with 2M reservations and, you are an early purchaser of the Cybertruck, re-selling after some use and not losing $ will be very easy.

Bill,

I understand the long wait and the decision to move on.

My advice, either take it or don't. If you decide to take it and like the CT enough to keep it, GREAT, enjoy. If, however, after driving the vehicle, you then decide to not keep it and want to sell it and move on. No harm, no foul. (You might make money, you might not.)

The "trigger" for many on this forum would be the decision to take it with the fore thought of just flipping it for a profit; AND, asking for advice on how to "best" do that.

BUT, I think you already knew this.

Anyhow, whatever you decide, good luck.

I placed a single reservation for a tri-motor CT in 2019 on the possibility that I would win the lottery before the truck could be delivered. The winning lottery ticket hasn't happened, so no way I'll be spending $50k+ on a new vehicle. Why not resell? Obviously a rational economic decision on my part without any 'bad faith' related to the original order. Slamming people like me for wanting to resell at a profit is hardly an admirable stance.

Here's a thought, Tesla should make the CT reservations transferable so that these inevitable transactions can proceed in a visible and transparent fashion. Similar to how the NFL allows game ticket resales to occur on NFL.com. I imagine the NFL gets a cut of the sales, this could also be a revenue source for Tesla. This would be a win-win-win for buyers, sellers and Tesla.
Why not write a letter to Tesla making your suggestion. We are not Tesla employees and I would be very surprised if anyone here or viewing this forum is in a position at Tesla where they could make such a suggestion and have it become actionable.

Regarding "Slamming people like me for wanting to resell at a profit is hardly an admirable stance", I suspect that the problem with 'us' (me in particular) is that the Cybertrucks should go to people that actually want them. Yes, we live in a society that rewards people that cut in line, scalp tickets at concerts, pass in the median, make unfair profits, etc. That doesn't make it right. So my stance may not be admirable but I will stand by it.

I might add that most people here are currently very sensitive to the onset of Cybertruck production, the production ramp, and when we might see our number come up. The last thing we want to hear is the kind of thing you are promoting.

Except that the NFL and Tesla have different missions and are trying to accomplish different things. The NFL is about money, and how to suck the most out of people. At one time, they're trying to suck it out of the american people. But it seems they have discovered they can't "suck more" than they do now, so they are trying to export it around the world do have more "suckers".

Tesla is trying to change a market (at a profit). So encouraging resales with millions waiting on a list doesn't get them where they want to go. In fact, it probably gives them a lesser reputation and therefore hurts their end goal. So I don't see them moving in that direction.

As for the "win-win-win" you're suggesting, You are forgetting excluding a large group. The "buyers" you suggest are just a few in number, compared to the millions already on the list. And encouraging and facilitating the scalping of CTs, HURTS those who have already placed deposits down on CTs. Eliminate the scalpers, and there are more CTs available for those waiting on the list.

Note: The above comments regarding the NFL are my own personal observations and opinions about them. I am merely voicing my thoughts and opinions in a public forum and this is in no way an attempt to discourage or affect your decision making process regarding the NFL or american sports of any kind in any way.

I'm not a lottery person, actually living in Utah most of my life meant the lottery was not even an option. So when you say that you made a major financial decision around the hope of winning the lottery that send crazy to me. I realize a $100 refundable deposit isn't a commitment, but I do wonder how often you (because I don't know lottery people) make major financial decisions around the hope of winning the lottery. Can you provide more insight?

I don't buy lottery tickets.
I think I see the problem

I would think a lot of people would be willing to pay 10 to 15 G's over cost for the first year or two. The wait line isn't gonna shrink very fast on this one.

Hey guys, I found the Holy Grail at a flea market. Any thoughts on the resale value? I've already got a few grails lying around and this one might be more than I need.
Am I in the right thread?

Do you know what the vin number is of your grail? That will determine how much you can get for it. I think this is the chart to use to determine pricing:

GRAIL VIN#
0-200 $250k Over MSRP
200-500 $200k over MSRP
500-1000 $175k over MSRP
1000-2000 $140k over MSRP
2000-4000 $120k over MSRP
4000-10000 $100k over MSRP
10k-20k $50k over Msrp
