Wait hear me out haha… How about monetizing my social media to pay for the Cybertruck Foundation Series?

Should we go for it?

  • Yes it sounds fun

  • Nope not interested

  • It could work

  • I’d give it a follow

Get a company to pay you to wrap it with their branding. The Cybertruck will get a lot of eyes for the first year or so. I know company’s would pay to have their name driving around the city.

I think that could be pretty profitable actually. Especially in a densely populated city

Sounds like you and your wife are self employed so you could write it off on your business.

I myself work for a low voltage integration company. But she is self employed. I thought they kind of axed any meaningful vehicle right offs but I will look into it. Thanks

Dress up as Ghostbusters and trick out the truck as Cyber-ECTO and rent yourself out to kids parties.

Or dress as Ken & Barbie (pink wrap), or Bladerunner (no wrap, or...............?

Adding to my above post, but you live in Inglewood, which is close to H-wood and Burbank. Don't production companies rent people's unique vehicles for shows? For decent $$$?

I am sure there will be CT's needed for shows as soon as possible.

Haha love these ideas. Now we are getting out of the box. The other side of our smart home business does car tech, so I do get to see some cool movie prop vehicles in the shop from time to time. Including the original Ecto-1. That was getting spruced up for the film premiere.

I Turo our model 3 full time. It pays for that and our Y.

How much you make all depends on market conditions. You need to be near an airport and in a good travel area. Doesn’t have to just be tourism it could be business travel too. In Dallas there are a lot of Teslas so it’s pretty competitive and we have to price our rate well enough to attract enough renters to make it worth it. I think our average rate is $50/day.

Then you need to mitigate your costs as much as possible. If you have to drop at airports or guest locations you need to pay for travel back home (ride share/public transit) or have a reliable way to get back (partner picks you up). So we charge a dropoff fee for drop offs to account for potential ride share costs.

Car washing and cleaning can eat into your revenue as well so if you can clean yourself that’s a big one. Time is obviously a big factor as well.

There’s also hiring a management service so it’s more hands off but that will greatly eat into revenue and you prob wouldn’t want to do that with your new CT anyway.

Lastly you have to factor in Turo’s fees. They’re based on the level of insurance you apply. The 75 plan has the lowest deductible but pays you only 75% of what the renter pays. The deductible increases as the take rate increase (95% take but high deductible).

With the CT you’ll definitely make a grip but it depends on how many days you’re willing to be without especially on the weekends where you can earn more but also when you’d most want to drive it.

That's AWESOME. I also noted this in your writeup:

My wife is a singer musician
With the powered vault options, wouldn't the CT be a portable stage for music also?
A load-in/load-out and a stage all in one.

I’d be interested in watching some videos about camping in the Cybertruck. I really want to camp in the bed but there is a failure of no Midgate, no roll down rear window, and lastly no porting of a/c or heat to the vault. So now I’m thinking about getting a small ac/heater unit to plug in and then have some kind of mesh screen to put into a small opening of the bed cover (bed cover not closed all the way).
that reminds me game streaming platforms where kids are so lazy or "even playing games is hard" so they just watch other kids and adults stuck in childhood playing games.
I can see boy scouts giving away "GameStream watching" badges in next couple years! ??

Wow this is great information. How many days do rent your cars out each month on average? How far in advance do they usually order the car in your experience? Is it usually a couple days or like a week or like the day before?

I had a look at the Turo site and by their numbers an R1T or a Hummer EV covers the car payment plus around 25% in profit. I’d be happy if it covered half or most of the payment.

I live around 10 min from LAX. I work from home now and only really go to jobsites by appointment, generally scheduled about 5 to 7 days in advance. So I could probably plan renting it out around that or keep the other Model 3 and just rent out the Cybertruck full time. Outside of when we need it for trips and working on the house. I also was never planning to be too precious about it, because it’s a truck and I need it for truck things.

any other insight regarding Turo you could provide would be much appreciated.

Just wanted to chime in and say I’m doing this too! My LLC was just approved by the state of California yesterday. My background is social media marketing in tech and plan to showcase electric lifestyle and hybrid work. Would be cool to collaborate when both our channels are up and running. I have a cyberbeast foundation series ordered and space camper and unplugged performance deposits placed. Stoked to to see what this truck can do! (Or not do) Will either be an epic adventure or epic failure but I think people will enjoy the content regardless. My vote is go for it!

I think the cringiest things I've ever seen is when people ask for money to pay for a glamorous item.

Whole Mars Catalog did it best when he said he wants a cybertruck and made a fundraiser for him when he's cruising around in what looks like a new Model S Plaid making tons of youtube videos raking in probably thousands.

I'm not bitter or anything but how is it that we got so upset at Oprah and the Rock for doing a fundraiser for Maui because they are "rich" asking for us to give them money and this guy is doing the same thing?

Regardless it's just funny. But hey, like you guys said, people pay money for Only Fans and if this brings them joy for sure, donate and contribute. haha

To the OP, it's nothing against you literally. I think the whole mars thing got under my skin and I haven't been able to vent or talk to anyone about it. You actually seem like a cool guy and who'd take the truck outdoor and do fun stuff with it. I say keep making awesome content, you'll get followers and views and you'll be able to afford it eventually and make content NOBODY has seen
