Other than it’s a hell of a lot less than 340?
This will be my forth Tesla and so far none of them have reached anywhere near advertised range.
Yup Model 3 I drove with like 10k miles on it had advertised 330 and it ended up being closer to 300 or 310, no big deal. But if CT goes from 340 to 170 that will be a dream crusher, and make it impossible to tow anything.

Those hoping for 500 mi range some day are going to be pretty disappointed. For me it’s not an issue. Even when I take long trips it’s not an issue that I have to stop a few times to charge.

If indeed that the Cybertruck only gets less than 200 miles on a full charge, then Tesla is going to have a PR nightmare on their hands. Let's hope that isn't the case. I am not interested in purchasing that bulky and expensive range extender to get the initial advertised range of the Cybertruck.
It won't be a PR nightmare and it won't be 200 miles on a full charge unless it is really cold and you are blasting the heater. Below is some real information from someone that their family has driven close to 300,000 miles on EV's in the last 6 years.

1. If Tesla states 340 miles, it will be closer to 270 miles.
2. People don't understand this, but battery capacity depends on temperature. If it is 0 degrees Celsius and you have 120 kWh of battery capacity, it might only accept 100 kWh of energy at that temperature. That 120 kWh is tested at around 25 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is closer to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, you might be able to charge you car closer to 130 kWh.
3. You need a round trip to estimate range. Elevation and wind need to be accounted for.
4. EV's suck in cold climates. ICE engines will help heat cabins with the ability to remove the wasted heat from the combustion engine. If you live in a cold climate, you will be disappointed with an EV. It is perfect for me in the Central Valley in California.

I can’t imagine driving 500 miles, or even 340 without a break. Food, bathroom, stretch legs, or anything else…
Yea but if you are towing with the truck that will get cut in half, or worse.
So with 500 miles 250 is doable
With 190 miles of range 90 miles of trailering range won't get you from one super charger to another in a lot of the country.

In all fairness, I can’t think of a single ICE I’ve had( and I’ve have a bunch of them) has ever reached the estimated miles per gallon advertized either??
100% to get the advertised pretty sure you need a strong tailwind :)
But most ICE vehicles I have owned have been with 10-15% not 40

Well, I’m not expecting the range to be 40% of advertised but it probably won’t be 80% either. It’s totally a guess for me but I’m expecting around 270, like Dandor shared in the article a few minutes ago. maybe 250. So yea, pulling a trailer that cuts that in half could be an issue for most who plan to tow things regularly.

If you are planning on towing long distances, the Cybertruck is not for you. It is a truck that is perfect for commuting, the occasional long trip without towing, or towing within a 75 mile range. Maybe one day the Cybertruck will fit your needs, but not now.

Edit: I will add this. They have done studies and less than 10% of people who have a truck like a F150 actually tow with it. If you are part of that 10% who actually use a truck as a truck, buy a F150 ICE. I live in a truck town and 90% of the people here would be perfectly suited for a Cybertruck. My neighbor has a F150 and I asked him if he could help my pick up lumber at the Home Depot. He said he didn't want to scratch up his truck.

Lots of real world range numbers are coming in via videos getting posted now that some non Tesla employees are getting trucks.
Early report of really bad efficiency like 810 wh/mile were chalked up to speeds over 70MPH, bad driving, etc.
New numbers coming in now are no better at lower speeds.

zimage7075.png

zimage7074.png

20 mile test drive (ended up being 21)
Average speed of 63 MPH
Mostly highway driving
689 Wh/mi
Giving the AWD Cybertruck a range of 178.5 miles

*Notes*
2 Passengers
2 Carry on size suitcasestonneau
Tonneau cover closed
Minimal HVAC
Nothing being towed/hauled
Battery was warm as this was a stop on long trip and this was supercharger 3+ on the trip
It should be pointed out with every new Tesla model: The numbers (efficiency and range) will improve as the company gets more mileage on the road from each customer. My 2017 Tesla MS 75D, arrived with x miles of range but after updates over the first year I got more range than when delivered. And after 114k miles, I still have more range than I did when I took delivery.
(Just thought I’d share my experience.)

Highway driving in winter, these numbers are correct, Model x, Raven (usually more efficient) with 65 mph, I get 480 Wh/mile
The cybertruck under same conditions will be like 600 Wh/mile average.
This is Physics and reality with EVs.
yes there are elevations along the route, always be there, that is real world scenario, there will not be any idea conditions.

This has not been the case for years. They were conservative with battery capacity in the beginning and then unlocked it. If you buy a new Tesla now, you won't have this experience.
