So if this range extender is 750lbs and you have it in the bed. The manual then says the limit in the AWD bed is 1010lbs. So you only have 260lbs you can put in the rest of the bed? ?‍♂

Believe payload is 2,500lbs
But yea, if you add the range extender you basically get a shiny Model Y that has a 330 mile range :(

Where are you pulling the specs for the payload? You way way low on the AWD. I think of the top of my head it's 2500lbs.

Yeah I'm starting to think the range extender is just a hypothetical designed for rhetoric.

For all the people disappointed in the initial range and on the fence about going through with the purchase they say "But soon everyone can increase that number, so buy now and upgrade later!"

For all the people who complain about range when they get the cybertruck are met with "Just buy the range extender then"

And when you point out how it eliminates a lot of the functionality of the truck they say "Psh well then you don't really want the range"

I'll be very interested to see if it ever sees the light of day as promised. Specifically the Release Date (and availability), how much range it actually adds, and what the unseen tradeoffs are (can only charge at a slower rate, takes up more space, etc).

It’d be quite difficult to get an additional 1000lbs to fit in the bed with that huge battery in the way. Also payload includes everything so 5x 180 adults leaves 1600lbs less 750lb battery leaves 900lbs.

It's all hypothetical, until it's not

My f150 platinum only has a 900lb payload. The 2500lb payload on the cyber truck is great.

Well said
It basically just creates a rhetoric loop, mission accomplished.

According to the screenshots from the Owner's Manual (discussed in a different thread), the total payload of the Cybertruck ranges from 2,000 to 2,500 lbs. The dual-motor has more payload than the tri-motor, and the all-terrain tires can handle more payload than the all-season tires.

However ... the capacity of the cargo bed specifically is much lower, at only 919 to 1,310 lb (see image below). Apparently the rest of the payload is supposed to go in other parts of the truck, like the frunk (up to 441 lbs), the underbed compartment (up to 220 lbs), and the cab (no weight specified, but presumably can handle five adult passengers).

So yeah, seems like a 750-lb range extender actually would use up most of the weight capacity of the cargo bed. If you had a dual-motor with all-season tires, a 750-lb range extender would leave only 260 lbs of rated bed capacity. The total payload for that configuration is 2,200 lbs, so there would still be 1,190 lbs of additional weight capacity between the frunk, the cab, and the underbed compartment.

Both bed capacity and payload are 300 lbs higher for a dual-motor with all-terrain tires.

Don't think that I've ever seen this number specified for a pickup truck before. Payload weight, sure. But a weight capacity for the bed specifically? No.

This has already been discussed, but if the rated cargo bed capacity maxes out at 1,310 lbs, then that might be another good reason for not putting 1,800+ pounds of drywall back there.

Oh wow yea, you are 100% correct.
Which means, if you get a range extender you can put almost no weight in the vault............................
Which SUCKS

The example above includes 5 150 LB passengers. It's written above the chart.
OK, that would make more sense. I got the image from the Owner's Manual thread, which don't include that note.

So if you are carrying less than 750 lbs of passengers (including the driver), you could effectively add the saved weight to the bed capacity.
