So that would be a Jan 11 build. VIN registration. Looks like you're getting a fresh one!
Congrats!
They've been averaging about ~10 days from VIN activation to assignment from all I've seen on here and ? over the past week or two (dozen or so data points).

something about this math seems to bury some details i cant quite put my finger on

im not disagreeing with what you say, as it does seem like the figures we're seeing from people getting assigned VINs tracks this ~10 days from activation.

At the same time, I do not think that every VIN we're seeing activated (with NHSTA) is being assigned to a customer within ~10 days.

It's not clear that these two circles overlap completely.

I suspect that as time goes on, we'll find that "people getting assigned VINs" right now are effectively in the fast lane - while the slow lane, which includes the numerous members here posting "still havent seen VIN" may once they get assigned a VIN start to show the rest of the distribution.

How does the Vin assigning work did I order to late of something
there is increasing confusion/muddying of the content and purpose of this thread, vs what some customers with orders are interested in

This thread's purpose is to find and report only the VIN numbers that Tesla is activating with regulatory authorities prior to building a unit.

A separate and essentially unrelated matter is when, once Tesla has completed a build they are telling a customer the specific VIN that customer is receiving. That is a separate ball of hair, that the substance of this thread wont provide any insights to.

I may change the thread title name, accordingly - to try and assist in segregating the two concepts.

It's all good.

It's confusing out there in this Tesla fog.

To answer *your* questions (somewhat), nobody knows exactly how Tesla is deciding to allocate an already-built vehicle to a specific customer. That decision likely results from a mixture of many things, e.g.:

(A) the timing in which an order was completed, inlcuding all the sub-steps like financing, etc. (e.g., someone who completed order on 12/12 likely 'in line' before someone who completed order on 12/13, all else equal), and

(B) potentially some still applying preferential allocation by Tesla (e.g., pushing out trucks to Tesla friends and family earlier, on average, than normal Joe - even if normal Joe completed the order earlier in time), and

(C) finally, no small amount (likely a large amount) of timing effects from logistics and last-mile delivery considerations (e.g., can they fill a transport of trucks to a particular region, as opposed to sending a single truck to some far-flung place; or similarly, does a specific service center already have 12 coming in before you, such that the service center's ability to receive/service the prior deliveries is the timing bottleneck).

put differently, the concept in (1) above would result in a more straightforward pattern if all else were equal, and Tesla were being completely egalitarian in order of delivery based on first-in-time, AND Tesla had magic storks to one-off deliver a single truck to a single owner

it's still a little unclear... are you super experienced so all should follow your lead?

am i right on this?

because the more you say it, the more I'm unsure
It's not my lead, it's the accumulated knowledge of many on a number of Tesla forums.
And yes, for those who haven't bought a Tesla before and are worrying about timeframes, I have personally been through this twice and I've followed similar experiences by others.
This process is not only used during new vehicle situations but on a daily process for Tesla.

Remember, this is NOT the only Tesla forum and King @cvalue13 doesn't even own a Tesla.

what's your experience with all these other manufacturers info they provide for highly sought after new products?

just how many highly sought afer new cars do you own!?
All I'm doing is forwarding the experiences of others both on this and other Tesla forums. And no. I don't have personal experience custom ordering from other manufacturers, because every time that I've asked to do so, I get "yea, maybe we can get it for you in 6 months to a year"

And the timeline that you listed, is that the Ford Lightning or have you custom ordered other vehicles before?

dont gaslight/confuse me calling you on your bullshit with postering MYSELF as king

the point is NOT whether you can add value

the point is whether you CHOOSE to do so in a way that is productive, additive, and free of constant condescension

a condescension, btw, that seems borne entirely of believing yourself to be the vessel

the accumulated knowledge of many on a number of Tesla forums.
you got this shit backwards

maybe it’s because you’re also condescending to them?

I’ve had a fine time and been well served

regardless, it seems on your own admission:

And no. I don't have personal experience custom ordering from other manufacturers,
… you should stop weighing in with eg:
(other manufacturers do a whole lot less)
Because THAT is porting over from your other exalted forums into this one a certain brand of $TSLA xwitter influenza claptrap of which you have no personal experience

No. I don’t own a Tesla. Because I drive trucks for 30 years, and bought the first BEV one built/offered to me

this “he doesn’t even own a Tesla” bullsh*t is the sort of thing that may get you a pat on the back in *other* forums, but not here

I decided to go to see a showroom unit today to see it for the first time in person. As many of you have already experienced it, it’s awesome in person.

I naturally ask the guy for the VIN and he tells me 35 and it was there around Christmas. I said that’s not true and he just stared at me for a second and said how do you know. I just laugh thinking this guy has no clue who he’s talking to lol. I explain to him that 35 is a beast and was activated on 1/18/24. After he chewed on that for a minute he says it’s 527. I said that makes more sense because that was active by 12/9. He added that it was the 35th off the line though so I guess he wasnt totally lying.

He was a nice guy and pretty knowledge after we got past the incorrect VIN number. He said it will be moved at some point and it’s probably an employee vehicle. Panel alignment was great, just a few barely noticeable ripples by the wheel wells. I would have accepted delivery with no concerns.

I started to show him my vin lists and activation dates. I’m pretty sure it was way more information than what they have.

I wouldn't call it more information than they have, because most of their information comes from forums like this.
It is unquestionably more than the official information that they have. They really aren't given much, except for some numbers that they need to hit by end of quarter.

You wouldn't believe how often my DM's are from employee's who want to know ANYTHING.

They're very very in the dark. On the other side, they can absolutely know more if they know how to navigate their own system.
