I have a Model X with old style key fob. Does Tesla use NFC cards for 3,Y? If so, it may be possible to duplicate the card. Even if encrypted maybe hackable with a flipper?

If so, it would be cool to create some custom laser cut cards that open the door.

For those that aren't aware, American Express and others have used metal cards for some of their higher end products for years. Aside from feeling a little heavier, they are just about identical. The edges feel the same, they aren't sharp and they work identically. Which surprises me why their is different software support except maybe for the picture when pairing. But then again it could be something really different.

@Derektsla The Model 3 and the Model Y have their NFC cards, but they are seldom used. They are only needed to add new keys or phones as a key.

Your phone is your primary key and while there are/were key fobs (different from the Model S/X fobs), they are very rarely used.

I haven't heard of anyone hacking them yet. It's the phone that would be the prime target anyway.

Yah, you can find on the webs. They melt the plastic of the card and use the little NFC wire thingy to make rings that work like the keycard and other stuff.

It's like plastic cards, with extra steps.

in all seriousness though, it's amazing that things may still be changing with deliveries. I wonder if the people who already got their trucks will be sent metal cards after the fact? I'd hope so, since the price of the vehicle is the same (or higher if this takes place after foundation series is done).
I would guess they will. But how many have there been? Confirmed we have fewer than about 25 so far?

Great, just one more thing I must remove from my pants at the airport
You could just remove your pants. Bonus, you might get free housing for a while.

Hear me out...NINJA stars metal key cards!
Um.... Have you been through an airport lately? For that matter, when was the last time you carried around a NINJA star? Ever put one in your front pocket and then sat down?

I sure hope the CT uses the phone instead of a card, plastic or metal. I keep my S key in my wallet just in case.

This is great, wish each car in the lineup also gets their own exclusive Key Card, when you have multiple Teslas you have to use ugly labels to differentiate them, and its not the best solution.

For my Porsche keys, I always get the option that they are all color-matched to the car.
