Your comments make it sound like you've never off-roaded in your life.

Tesla used this Baja trip as one of their proving grounds for Cybertruck, it wasn't meant to be a vacation for their engineers. They were supossed to push the limit and see what happened. When driving that fast, for so many miles, it's not surprising they made a mistake. This is actually a good thing for finding problems and addressing them.
Agree. I watched the full 15 minute video. Glad they broke a few things....because we will get a better Cybertruck.

Neither Rivian nor Ford Lightning have diff locks. Not sure what you’re referring to here. CT has the hardware already. It just needs a software update to allow you to enable it. They’re probably still tweaking the software aspects.
Agree. It looks like a big purpose of the recent Moab, UT trip was to gather data for locking differentials. Can't wait!

I don't believe it's a mechanically locking diff ... Because there is no diff.
I think it will be a software feature using brakes.

So it's safe to send 2 clueless individuals out on to mild to moderately rough dirt roads for the first time? This wasn't a race my friend. Go look at the video and see just how many seconds they had to back off the accelerator before they smacked into that rut.
It wasn't a race. It was guys testing a truck.

Backing off on the accelerator sometimes isn't enough.

You've now:
  • Insulted their safety equipment
  • Insulted their skill
  • Now say they slowed down enough?

You go break your axle on a rut like that and come back and report if you wanted a helmet (or your insurance wished you used a helmet) or goggles for staring at the sun all day.

Wow that is nothing … depends on the speed I suppose but I wouldn’t expect windshields to crack on something like that even if you bottomed out the travel. I basically drive my Jeeps and Broncos over stuff like that all the time like it’s nbd.
Do you hit it at speed, though?

I have a buddy who's just sent his third Bronco back to Ford. It's not inspiring me that it could do this.

The Cyberbeast uses a software locking rear, while the AWD uses physical lockers (according to interviews from Tesla)

It's stated as electro-mechanical for front on both AWD/CB, same on AWD Rear and Software only on Beast Rear given 2 motors and no diff.

They were not going that fast when they went over that ditch. Windshield should not crack from that type of obstacle. We've seen it crack at least twice in the same place along the bottom of the windshield suggesting a design or manufacturing flaw. This video was shot months ago and it also happened to someone recently so they still haven't fixed whatever the issue is.

I assume $1900 is a guess? That’s how much my windshield replacement was last year on my 2018 model three!
I saw this amount in a reaction video to the guy who broke his windshield jumping on it. Not sure of his source.

I can't imagine...where does it say that it has a mechanically locking gearset?
If it was a real mechanical feature, I would suspect it would be easy to program, one wheel slips engage lock.
So the fact that it's not already implemented makes me question that it's dedicated hw. Because then programming it requires development of algorithms to detect terrain and engage proper responses.

All the people saying on here "they didn't hit it with speed" are not off-roaders.
They were going fast and probably just didn't see it, they are humans mistakes happen. I agree that it could a resulted in broken suspension, but it didn't.

there are actual mechanically locking diffs in each single motor drive unit. They are difficult to program due to many different factors that I cannot expand on.

Wes Morrill (chief test engineer guy) said directly on X that AWD is mechanical lockers. Beast because of the dual motors in the back will have an e locker in the rear.

Pretty sure they could see that dip a mile away ? their goal is to break things.

Well that's good news, especially for people who want a rwd. Rwd electric vehicle with locking diffs with 315hp should be exciting new uncharted territory for offroading too.
What's sad is that it seems like Tesla wants to play the buy now pay later game by giving you a 123kwh battery with a small unlocked range. Would rather drop some weight than carry around a brick.
