I am setup with my utility for time of use (ToU) charging rate, where the rate is discounted at max for the 10pm to 6am window
an empty CT at 123kw, assuming 90% charge needed, there is no way to complete this rare max refill in the eight hour ToU window, math shows 9.6 hours necessary at 48 amps
any feedback for charging the CT at home at 48amp and it not finishing before 6am?
wish they would have brought back the 80amp WC for it def would help

I mean it seems you know the math. 48A is the max you'll ever get on AC charging. Even if your voltage is perfect, you'll only reach 90% in 8 hours if you weren't below 20%, and that's with no losses.

my point is, like I posted almost 9 months ago
due to the size of the CT battery and other pickup batteries like the massive Silverado EV
80 and even 100amp home charging could be a once in a while need
just saying

yea i mean i guess you dont really have any choices. other then buy a powerwall, charge the powerwall up off peak and then even if its after peak times use the powerwall to charge your truck then your not drawing fromt he grid. but seems a little excessive with only a difference of 9 cents a kwh and how much a powerwall costs and its only 13 kwh capacity, are you driving 90-10% every day ?

I agree it would have been nice if 80 amp charging was brought back for CT, but it wasn't. So I'm not sure what feedback you want. There isn't a way to make 0-90% charging possible on AC in 8 hours. You can install a DC fast charger for ~50k if it's that important to you, but I suspect it would be far cheaper to just pay higher rates once in a while.

only rarely, but there must be forum members that drive and drain the battery fully
the utilities are driving us toward solar and powerwalls definitely
what happened to sustainable energy driving down electricity costs...

Lol no, I've been salty since I realized how few people were going to get deliveries in the timeline sold to us.

But in this case, I genuinely don't know what OP wants. He asked for some kind of feedback. About what? it won't work. You can't make it charge faster than it charges. I also wish that it could charge faster, but it's not a design constraint that can be gotten around. The charging circuit built into the truck cannot be boosted to produce a faster charge, so it's DC or only be able to add 70% charge in the allotted time. Or I guess what you suggested, charge a powerwall or two in // to the truck during the specified time, and finish topping off the truck from that.

never say never
with NACS now the standard, we might see these other pickup buyers and Tesla buyers of the max pack, drive Tesla to bring back the 80 or even better, 100amp wall connector
Tesla's 123kwh CT battery is small compared to the max pack, Rivian R1T with max, Silverado EV, etc
there must be a market
no more ranting by me
lets get others with real world battery drain and recharge frustration to weigh in
Elon, please listen, we need a max charging at home

i have an 80a wall connector, but the CT will only ever do 48a because the onboard charger is only capable of that ... maybe future production years would have larger chargers but for now thats all you get :p

Wait until the battery extenders get built and installed with more kWh on board. In San DIego, the super off peak rates are good from midnight to 2pm on weekends, so I definitely use that time to charge up more when needed.
