This is just a funny story about how my wife used AP/FSD.
So as many of you know, these programs need to detect that youre paying attention. Typically both by seeing your eyes and feeling your hand on the wheel.
My wife just recently decided she was willing to use it (we're on our third Tesla). I assumed she knew how it worked because she didn't ask and she's seen me use it 10000 times.
We just got rid of our Y for a raven X, so the camera isn't part of the equation. She just needed to make the car know she's holding the wheel.
She got kicked out of AP a couple weeks ago and said the car couldn't tell she was holding the wheel. I was suspicious but let it slide because I've been kicked out before while actually holding so it was whatever.
When we got FSD 12, it activated FSD on her profile so she was using that today when she called me and said she got kicked out again. (Remember that if you get kicked out 3 times [on the non camera version] you get banned for a while). So I was like, how do you keep getting kicked out?
I assumed she was like not touching the wheel until it beeped because if you do that a few times it will assume you're not paying attention and kick you out.
But then she explained it...
She thought it was like a capacitive or grip sensor. So she just had her hand on the very bottom of the wheel and squeezed when it would ask her to touch the wheel.
So PSA for new Tesla owners who are going to get AP/FSD soon.
You have to put a slight turning pressure on the wheel or click a button to make it think you're paying attention.
Don't get banned :/
