Thanks for the great video, explanation and heads up. I just checked mine and it seems to be very securely attached. My VIN is in the 2800's.

Just pried on my accelerator pedal cover and find it to be extremely secure. Photo to prove I am an owner.

There were two large recalls for Lightnings. One was a battery failure and one was a wiper failure. Both of them required a day at the shop and new parts. I put 15k miles on my truck and never had an issue. It doesn't mean it wasn't looming.

Trust me, Tesla does not put a stop sale in place if it isn't warranted. This is a tremendous logistic issue and holding up cash flow.

I popped mine off without trouble. Only held on there by two plastic clips. For now, I’ll just drive without the cover.

If yours is secure like some are reporting, I wouldn’t worry about it at all. Just be aware and also keep in mind that you can press the brake pedal to override the accelerator.

I wonder if a current owner would be willing to stomp on the pedal as they would if they’re trying to floor it, but with an obvious shear force in the direction of the the top of the pedal? In fact, try to make it come off with your foot only. The design is obviously flawed, even if you can’t pry it off. Your foot doesn’t pry, but it creates a shear force in the narrowing direction of the pedal. I would do that for you if I had mine, but I was told NET June for my FS delivery.

Just checked mine and yep it's secured tight with no give or play. Vin in the mid 3000s

I don’t remember if my bmw pedals were screwed in or what.

with Tesla I know on the model 3 at least you couldn’t simply add the performance covers for the nonperformance variant. The part number included the entire pedal.

What's your build date/VIN range?
My VIN range is in the 1200’s.

After thinking about this some more, I’m not sure this is the issue. Communication didn’t come from Tesla, and our information is just from people online playing with their accelerator pedals.

The metal accelerator cover has a rubber casing, and it’s not slippery. IMO, it’s unlikely to slip forward even under heavy acceleration. In order to pop it off, I had to apply a perpendicular force in the direction towards the driver, which is the opposite of what would happen under acceleration.
