I totally agree here. I would never do this kind of dumb shit....I would've just bought another CT with the free supercharge. Then you'd have the free supercharge without losing selling short on the old one!
I’d have no space to store a 2nd CT, lol. And if it isn’t being used, it is depreciating without any use. But to each their own, based on their own exonomic and other circumstances! Enjoy your day!

Keep us posted.

That may turn up better than claiming total loss from the insurance.
Tesla came back after allowing upload of photos and will not be accepting CTs for trade-in at this time.

Yep, and I love it. Volunteer 20 hours a week. Chop wood for those who can't. Take seniors that have no family for breakfast and walks. Even rescued a dog on Christmas day and gave it its forever home. I love helping others and ringing the bell in the local bar for the round.

Sorry my life is Cringeworthy for ya, and ya never will get a beer in my town. I give a bag of eggplants as my thoughts.

not surprising since there is the one year resale exclusion in your FS purchase agreement.
I bet there isn’t that was removed after a time, some months ago.

I am not saying that it makes financial sense BUT my family is going to road-trip the hell outta our AWD CT w/ free SuperCharging.

I don’t yet have a response from Tesla on the trade-in value, so there is that. I might yet attempt a private sale if the value offered is less than what I want.
TL/DR: I’m eating some depreciation to get “tactical grey” and free SuperCharging for as long as I own it. And it looks like I’m being allowed to trade in my “old” CT with 16,000 miles.

There is also the concern of Tesla "in its sole discretion" reserving the right to ta take away free super charging for "excessive charging" . I think this was put in primarily to protect them from folks thinking they can power their home for free for the rest of their lives but maybe "road-trip[ping] the hell outta our AWD" might also trigger it.

Thank you. I’ve worked hard for nearly 40 years and I’m fortunate. I’ve given back to my community and nation, including overseas service in the Marines. I have a 30% disability rating from my service. I went to law school and for many years I’ve served as counsel to poor people accused of crimes.

Towing my Aistream thousands of miles for free with my CT equipped with a range extender is brilliant IMHO. But to each his own! I’m living my best life, lol!
I hope you have amazing adventures and many years of exploring! We also plan to explore the US more in retirement. We did our overseas (more expensive) trips in our younger days :)

Which is why I made an offer to trade it in. Simply making that offer negates the contract provision for the 1 year resale exclusion.

I wonder if there’s a corollary, anywhere in automotive history? Imagine any other car company [I know what Elon thinks they are, but general perception and what moves the stock price says otherwise] refusing to take customer trade-ins of arguably their flagship/best vehicle. Even if the customer only had it for a few months!

Imagine, Porsche, Mercedes, Cadillac doing this. Or Ford saying, sorry sir, you can’t trade in your GT we would not be interested in taking that off your hands. Also, no you can’t sell it! Which, for resell restrictions there is broad and reasonable precedent, but both? That’s absolute crazy talk.

In fact, I’m quite sure that Tesla refusing to give you any economic value or buy the car back from you would render the “no resale clause” voidable under many scenarios I can imagine.

I’d certainly be willing to litigate that, with great confidence.

But seriously, is there any precedent for this by any other car company? Wouldn’t this make you look foolish, feckless and not even a believer in your own flagship product if it was literally anyone else, at any point in their product or business life cycle?

I agree that refusing to take it as a trade-in negates the ‘no resale within 1 year’ provision.

Maybe something bespoke, like a Pagani or Bugatti, but this isn’t that at all. I know someone will try in and say something about Tesla not having a typical distribution model (no dealerships) and somehow that creates a reason for them to be able to get away with this.

I don’t think so. I think that’s a distinction without meaning in the context of what we’re talking about here and also irrelevant to the general buying public who don’t understand any of that. Especially, since Tesla typically does take trade-ins of their S3XY cars, just like a normal dealership.

I’m not trying to make any kind of mountain out of this, I just think it’s curious and a pass that they are being given that absolutely no other company would receive under similar circumstances.

I fully understand why they don’t want to be getting these cars back right now since they can’t move them as well as they thought in the first place.

I know people that have exclusively charged their free SuoerCharge-eligible vehicles. We’ll see if road-tripping raises any issues, lol! I don’t think so. But maybe powering your home would. Any type of commercial use definitely would, understandably.

I drive 1,000 miles a month just to get to work, so there is that. Any because the GVWR is 7,500 lbs. I can knock a dollar a mile off my taxes for driving it to work as I’m required to be in a courthouse every single day that happens to be 26 miles from my office.

The CT w/ free SuperCharging is a good arrangement for my situation.
