Tesla Allowing CT Trade-in Towards a CT w/ Free SuperCharging

Stupid would be someone that had mabe 3 or 4 more zeros at the end of potentially your net worth depending.... Please read the millionaire next door. Like I said add some more zeros to that. Some do whatever they want when they get to a point. It is kind of fun. What is more fun is when someone calls you stupid.

Yeah I got to that point to have you in your life call me stupid. Do you see my life? Do you see what I have created? Small minded thinking leads to thoughts and comments such as these.

I am not saying that it makes financial sense BUT my family is going to road-trip the hell outta our AWD CT w/ free SuperCharging.

I don’t yet have a response from Tesla on the trade-in value, so there is that. I might yet attempt a private sale if the value offered is less than what I want.

If you could do it and it only cost you 10-20k, would you pull the trigger?
If so, I’d suggest taking that 10-20k and purchase TSLA shares. At the end of each year, compare your SC cost with the value of your shares. Would be a fun experiment and you’ll likely come out ahead.

So despite being encouraged by Kevin at the Scottsdale Tesla center and being allowed to upload photos for a potential trade-in, Tesla texted this morning that they will not be accepting CTs for trade-in at this time.

Same setup. Qmerit's quotes were ridiculous, had a 50 amp generator inlet installed with a manual lockout. Cybertruck will output 40 amps via the 240v socket. Not automated like Powershare, but it's about $7,000 less expensive when you consider all you need is a standard generator cord - no other hardware - and I'm still clutching my $2,500 voucher hoping for the lightbar to become available to FS AWD to purchase.

The Powershare isn't a bad deal if you get a realistic installation quote, mine was under $2,400. It's more convenient than the interlock, transitioning automatically back and forth (if you experience followup outages during line repair work for instance). Ultimately though, it'll be a much better experience when they have approval for the Tesla Backup Switch at the meter and you can eliminate the need for re-wiring and a transfer switch entirely.

The Powershare install, even in its simplest form, is still a good bit of work. It took 2 people the better part of a day to do mine. New 3/0 Cu between meter and gateway, then gateway and panel, plus separation of all the neutrals and grounds in the panel since it becomes a sub.

Less sarcastically, I have free supercharging on my MS. I get a few hundred bucks a year out of it if I'm out of town a bunch. Home charging costs about 40 bucks per thousand miles, 15k average miles per year is 600 bucks if my math is right. {10 to 12 cents per kWh, 100 kWh gets about 300 miles) Unless home charging isn't an option or you are a traveling salesperson, free supercharging isn't a huge perk.

Even at only 800Wh/mile, $0.40 a kWh means $0.32 a mile, $320 per thousand driven. Ignoring any energy used to power the trailer when camped.

Maybe not worth $20k, but towing calls for calls for all terrain tires ($3.5k), wife likes white interior ($2k), and FSD is worth it (even if not active while towing) ($8k). So $13.5k in options, leaving ~$6k after the other accessories.
$6k at $0.40/kWh = 15,000 kWh / 800Wh/mile = 18,750 miles break even. Under 40k without a trailer.

When I’m towing an Airstream thousands of miles and then recharging my CT with range extender FOR FREE, I certainly will not feel like it is the “dumbest thing ever.”

Yeah, say 40% addition and 170kWh total, an 80% charge is 140kWh or $55 a stop. Psychologically, making that go away is very enticing, especially if you need to do it every 2-3 hours.
Alternative is a separate interest bearing account with linked credit card that one occasionally transfers money to and never ever look at your charging stats billing page ?

All I am going to say is that you cannot take your money with you. Have seen so many people hoard money to simply never use it, sometimes for things outside of their control like getting ill two weeks after retirement and then gone two weeks after that. Don’t judge people for doing whatever they want with their own money.

Towing my Aistream thousands of miles for free with my CT equipped with a range extender is brilliant IMHO. But to each his own! I’m living my best life, lol!

I was at the service center in Delray, Florida yesterday. Someone was trying to do this, they made a few calls and ultimately the customer was told they are not accepting CT trade ins period, even for another Tesla.

This remains to be true, but eventually it will change, although I doubt people will be happy with their trade-in value.
