You aren’t getting it my friend. I understand your proposal. It’s not complicated. This will likely serve your purpose. Maybe suppress your love of derision and think before posting. Peace.

No. I am calm. Don't think to mush. Your idea is good.
I just explained why I don't want to sit on truck bed directly.

It‘s all good. This one short enough it may clear the cover on a L track shelf. No need to put it on the bed floor. To keep your existing tent I would just rig a snap in bed cover out of shade cloth or something the size of the opening. Happy camping.

I used to mount my RTT on top of truck. But my RTT (Air Cruiser) is too thick. The wind resistance is too much. I lost 30% more electric. (400 wh/mile to 520 wh/mile)

So I am thinking mount the RTT in truck bed. It should reduce wind resistance much more than put it on top.

Thanks @Mars Adventure Gear. They have new product - Truck Bed Mount. Then I can mount my RTT in truck bed now.

The drawback is. My RTT is too thick. The tonneau cover cannot close completely. If you have thiner RTT, maybe it is closable.

I just set it up. Not do road trip yet. Will update the result of electric usage later.

We also have a bed crossbar kit, that includes the bars and in stock, that does the same thing. IF you mount the brackets vertically, you can raise or lower the bars, that might buy you the extra inch you're looking for if you want to close the bed cover.

im pretty happy with my Thule Outset. I dont habe range info yet, but its hitch mounted and allows for completely closed/empty bed, and you can drive away from camp without striking the tent.
