I recently replaced my rear receiver recovery point with an aluminum soft-shackle adapter. I've had the hollow forged receiver adapter and forged shackle for around 20 years and it's been standard equipment in all my trucks. It goes everywhere my truck goes, even when I probably won't need it, so the weighty nature of it has always bothered me. 5.3 lbs. doesn't sound like a lot, but recovery and tire repair equipment adds up.

I have no affiliation with Brennan's Garage, but the innovative and lightweight nature of this adapter was enough to get me to upgrade. I just wanted to share what's available these days:

Tesla Cybertruck Soft shackle recovery point for rear hitch receiver 20250629_155502adsm

Both of these have a similar breaking strength, more than you will probably ever need, but the one on the right weighs 5.3 lbs. and the one on the left weighs 1.1 lbs. That makes the hard recovery point almost 5 times as heavy! I wish I could lighten all my emergency gear by the same percentage. If you don't have a hollow receiver adapter like the one pictured above, the difference will be a lot more.

I recommend getting a non-locking hitch pin because this a recovery point that is installed only when in use and you don't want to be messing with keys. Unlike the forged shackle, no tools are needed to open and close it, just bare hands. If the forged shackle is bound up, you might need a wrench or screwdriver to open it.

In use, the soft shackle adapter protrudes approx. 3/4" from the end of the Cybertruck receiver and is a slip fit in the receiver with minimal play. Even though I already have a few soft shackles I went ahead and ordered it with the one they have optimized for this adapter and I'm glad I did. It came with abrasion protection for the soft shackle both for where it feeds around the hitch pin and also the attachment area (the former is nylon webbing and the latter in the form of an old firehose). While I haven't had to use it yet, it seems well executed and like a very safe design with minimal points of potential failure.

Most shocking to me is how lightweight it is. It feels like it is barely there even though I'm sure it can handle everything I'll ever need to throw at it. At $84 for the bare adapter and $140 with the soft shackle, the price is rather high compared to heavier alternatives, but this is a low volume specialty product. The price includes free ground shipping.

Happy trails!

Can you provide specific product names for each? Above url looks like the right garage but could not locate product that matches adapter and shackle?

Thanks for your tips, I just purchased the wyeth-scott more power puller (comealong) and extensikn, read all their FAQ and Amy called me next day to confirm, awesome product and service:)

Just ordered the adapter only, this is perfect to keep in the truck, already have 2 soft shackles.
Heavy steel recovery shackle can now live on the ATV hitch.

What diameter are your existing soft shackles? The website says it fits 7/16" diameter shackles (with a nylon strapping protector installed) or a 1/2" shackle without the protector.

The locking hitch pin I have is slightly too short for the Cybertruck receiver! Where it fits has been thickened up in their design. I'm just glad I tried it before I needed it...

Trying to do the same. There is a combo package?
Yes, the URL posted by HaulingAss points to the combo (both the adapter and the soft shackle). It doesn't say "combo" in the title but if you look at the description I believe it says combo somewhere. It's $140 for the combo, so if that's the price you know you have the combo. The soft shackle is nice because it is protected by a recycled firefighter hose.

Just ran into the same issue. Had to buy a new pin on the fly. Now it will not fit. It is too short. Were you able to find one that is long enough?

To be honest, I didn't try to find a longer locking pin and just went with a regular pin with cotter pin. 🤷‍♂️

That's what you want for the soft shackle recovery point anyway, because you don't want to be messing with keys when installing/uninstalling. Just one more thing to do when trying to get your buddy unstuck!

I'm trying to get rid of keys in my life anyway!
