Strangely if you go to the order page and select inventory the long range shows up as available now. Wonder what that's about?

If I try to order a "Long-Range" RWD Cybertruck, it says "Available: 6-8 Weeks". But underneath that there is a button to "View Inventory Available Now".

If I click the "View Inventory Available Now" button, it shows me a Cybertruck -- but it's a dual-motor AWD at a higher price, not a single-motor RWD. So Tesla is saying "if you really want a single-motor RWD, you'll have to wait 6-8 weeks, or you can pay a little more and get a dual-motor AWD right away."

The "View Inventory Available Now" doesn't show up for every delivery zip code. I suspect that it only appears for zip codes that have Tesla stores nearby.

The two biggest developments in EV pickups in 2025 (so far) are the Tesla Cybertruck RWD and the Rivian second-generation R1T Quad. But it's interesting how the two companies went in completely opposite directions in their thinking for these new models.

Tesla: We already have dual-motor and tri-motor versions of the Cybertruck. So the next step is to release a single-motor version that lacks performance and loses all the cool features. The priority is to achieve the lowest possible cost.

Rivian: We already have dual-motor and tri-motor versions of the R1T. So the next step is to release a quad-motor version with 1,025 hp and 1,198 lb-ft of torque that runs the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds and does tank turns in place. Who cares about the cost?

The two different approaches seem to correlate with the personalities of the two corporate CEOs.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, of course, has a reputation as a sensible, down-to-earth kind of guy. From that perspective, it makes sense to prioritize economical pricing, even if it comes at the expense of features and performance.

Whereas Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe is known as an out-of-control wild man. From that perspective, it makes sense to prioritize insane performance, even if it means ridiculous cost.

The Cybertruck was originally pitched as having "better utility than a truck with more performance than a sports car". And that's not just marketing hype -- as long as we are talking about the dual-motor or tri-motor versions. Even CT haters have to admit that it's quick.

But now there's a single-motor version, and its performance is a lot less impressive. For example, according to Tesla's specs, the "Long Range" version has a 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds. A Ford Maverick with the 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 can beat that in 5.9 seconds -- for an MSRP of $28,145.

The single-motor version is really a "Cybertruck Lite", in terms of both features and performance. As such, it's unlikely to enhance the reputation of the "Cybertruck" brand. So yeah, you could be right -- it might have been better if Tesla had marketed it under a different name.

It's the first and only one that I've seen. Can't say for sure if there are any others.

The Tesla online inventory page still doesn't have the "Long Range" trim as a selectable option. So it is currently impossible to check for RWDs in Tesla's nationwide inventory. Based on that point, I would guess that there are very few (or zero) RWDs available at Tesla stores at this time.

But you could try visiting your local Tesla store and asking them to search for RWDs. The internal inventory database might be more comprehensive and more up-to-date than the one that is available to the general public online.

The availability dates for the single-motor RWD version of the Cybertruck keep getting pushed back.

- When the RWD version was announced in April, delivery was scheduled for "June-July 2025"

- Then it was revised to "July-August 2025".

- Now it's "6-8 Weeks", which implies August-September 2025.

Update: it's been two weeks since the above was posted, and the RWD Cybertruck is still "6-8 Weeks" away (based on delivery to 78725, the zip code for Austin Gigafactory).

If this is to believed, then there has been further delay and we are now looking at September 2025 at the earliest.

Based on posts above, it appears like one lucky dude in Florida has actually received an RWD CT. However, the Tesla Inventory page still does not have any option to search for RWDs, so it seems like that might be an unusual exception.

The "Long Range" RWDs are starting to appear in Tesla inventory now. Interestingly, some of them are already discounted demo units. All of the ones that I've seen so far have the Cyber Wheels option at extra cost. In California, new units (not demos) are available for "Immediate Pick-up" at a few locations.

As with other Cybertruck trims, Tesla is currently offering a year of Free Supercharging if you buy from inventory.

I lost track of who it was but someone was posting on Twitter about the long range Cybertruck. And was taking pics of it and comparing it to the AWD I think. Anyways someone in California has one lol

I think the orders were just so low they haven't made many.

I predict all Tesla models will receive a $7500 price cut on October 1st, the start of Q4.
