HW3... AI4... AMD, Intel

Unless you're an incredible geek like some of us, it's understandable that this can be confusing.

FSD computers (HW2, 2.5, 3, and now AI4 with AI5 and AI6 looming on the horizon) vs Infotainment computers (Intel Atom, AMD Ryzen). The AMD being the much more powerful/capable of the two.

HW3 vehicles can be equipped with either Intel or AMD based INFOTAINMENT computers - depending on year and model (which makes buying the *RIGHT* used Tesla very tricky for people not in the know).

AI4 cars are all equipped with AMD-based infotainment systems. That's where this story is taking place. The infotainment system. Not the FSD computer.

And this is currently happening In the S and X specifically because they were also outfitted with powerful GPUs in order for them to run Steam and play games (which has been removed in new cars since the very limited rollout).

There's nothing tying the UE5 rollout to the difference of AI4 or HW3 - it has to do with the infotainment CPU and its accompanying GPU capabilities. Will we see a less-capable version on other AMD-equipped cars (like our Cybertrucks)? Maybe. Depends on if the performance can match or exceed the current rendering engine (godot) which they're using now.

Long story short - something will have to be sacrificed; either partially or altogether.
I think it should be one of those screaming goats:

Tesla Cybertruck Unreal Engine coming to Cybertruck! Driving Visualizations will be Incredibly Good! 1755181166825-mi

While cool and all, we need a Wiper fix for Christ's sake! I literally have a bottle of water just to pour on my windshield before wiping for a streak free clean. 😂

There is another similar thread from last week about this. While I agree this is nice, I don't really care for the busy visualization, I have that in all it's glory if I look up and not at the screen. I'd rather they spent the time doing other things like: Wiper update to spray before wiping, no wipes on FSD setting, heated headlights, way to turn of DRL bar in fog and snow, and so on.

They should let those in the rear seat add guns to the car and blow things up in real time. 😃
I would rather be able to have power share still waiting

Talk about a first world problem. The video representation of my car that drives for me doesn’t look enough like the road in the bloody windshield I don’t have to pay attention to anymore. 😭😫 The pain. And did I mention the windshield wiper every person on Earth has wined about (but never taken the 1 minute it takes to understand) for a decade? I hear Reddit is accepting applications.
True ideally in a few years I am reading a book or watching Netflix anyway while the car does it magic.

Not trying to give a viewpoint as to good or bad just trying to be informative about the wiper situation and Yeah I know it is annoying. Well, you know how Elon favors design engineering with fewer parts. They have done that here. They have removed standard rain sensors and trying to use hardware already on the cars. Namely the cameras. The camera sometimes senses shadows that are interpreted as rain drops. Hance phantom wipes. Someone on the Tesla team should have gone to a Universal Studio Hollywood Tour because they would have told you that raindrops are hard to pick up on camera.

I'm not buying that explanation, I can get a phantom wipe with blue skies and wide open sky, not a tree or cloud in sight.

I've just gotten used to pressing the FSD engage button, then immediately do a windshield wipe, and scroll left wheel down to off

People talking as if they know something, but Unreal Engine can run on Nintendo Switch 1 which has 4 gig ram and 32 gig storage. Cybertruck media processor may not be S/X level, but it has at least 8gig ram and 128 gig storage. If Tesla wants, they can make it work on Cybertruck, as well as Model 3 and Y. It's also extremely likely they will, as effort for this sort of thing on the niche cars seems like a waste of time. I personally don't care, but Cybertruck can definitely run it if they want to make it happen. UE is scalable and far from the most demanding engine in the world.

So after my conversation with @BengalBoy and @TheLastStarfighter, I thought about what they said. I will backpedal the definite claim of UE5 not happening for the 3, Y, and CT. @TheLastStarfighter has a point: Why pour all this time and effort if it will be a niche release - it won't be worth their time or effort.

Here are the new scenarios:
1) It doesn't come to current 3, Y, CT but to the current S and X. Future 3, Y, and CT will have the updated hardware dubbed "MCU4" which will then be able to run UE5 engine. Hopefully free retrofits will be available for current CT owners (like they did years ago with HW2.5 --> HW3 owner). Or they may charge for the retrofit as they did with previous Model S and X owners.

2) It is capable of UE5 update however with limitations.

3) The best case scenario is the full release will happen without any limitations until further in the future where 8GB of unified/shared memory will not be enough.

The reason for this abrupt change and pivot is the current vehicle home screen visualization. Zooming, rotating, and manipulating the already highly detailed model on the home screen gives me hope there will be something in the works. Like @BengalBoy said: let's try and be hopeful.
