HOV Decals - Where to Put Them?

In California, just ordered them tonight. I’m thinking about putting on the plastic/bumpers instead of stainless/body. What are you all planning to do?

The link below is a Tesla parts seller where I bought an under decal for the HOV decal on my M3. For $15 you'll place the HOV decal over their decal then place on your car. My M3 was PPF wrapped so removing the HOV decal without damage to my PPF when the HOV expired was important to me. The under decal worked making removal easy.

I kept them in my Model 3 and never put them on. Never got pulled over the 15-20 times driving solo. I figured if I did, I could show him to the officer. I haven’t ordered them for the truck yet.?

The California HOV stickers will come with instructions and a drawing showing where to mount them. Basically, all 4 corners of the vehicle. My biggest tip - you can thank me years from now - is to use these PPF stickers on your car or truck first and then put the HOV stickers on them. It will be MUCH MUCH easier to get the HOV stickers off when they expire....I have first hand experience...

My thoughts exactly! My HOV stickers arrived and I’m having second thoughts about putting them on. I live in the Central Valley of California and in my area and normal day to day travel I don’t have very many carpool lane options. When we do travel along freeways with the option, I’ll have my family with me and would be able to use the carpool lane anyway. I’m dreading sticking them on the bumper and them being there for all eternity.

Also they expire in September 2025 (unless the law is extended), so makes it worth even less. I already received mine, but they are sitting in a drawer for now ...

i have had teslas since 2013 in California and always just used one sticker in that corner. It has never been an issue with police.

I can confirm that they do not show up when you run the license plate. Must show DMV paperwork to verify.

Maybe we could attach the sticker to a magnet sheet. I have been pondering the same , but I have not yet gotten my vin, so cannot test it out.

magnet sheet is the way to go. only downside is it won't stick on a bumper (so it's nonstandard placement) and if someone knows it's a magnet, they can make off with it.

It surprises you the DMV doesn’t share or make info easily available? lol I’m kidding. Yeah it’s not something that’s accessible to LE. Just have it in your car to show. CHP might just warn you and/or make you put them on right then and there.

I can give an example—DMV requires you have proof of insurance and they have that info. However, it’s not in your DMV info when you or the car are checked. It will come up, however, if you fail to have proof of insurance with DMV. So, having proof of insurance on your phone or the paper in your car is required.

I bought magnetic CAV backings since I also hate the look of the stickers. I can confirm they all stayed well attached to the bare stainless at highway speed. Just waiting on CAV stickers to arrive any day.
plan on slapping them on before driving as needed, then storing them on the underside of the frunk when not in use.

was it odd to you that they had criteria about the income category as if they can tell from looking at the decals...this seems to be profiling.

I recall as tesla friend who bought a sticker to put on the Teslas Y to put the decal on. It "protected" the body of the vehicle. I think the stainless steel would be "tougher" than the bumper. I don't know if the police would care where I put it since they should know that this is clean air vehicle.
