Curious how it would work for these low-vis conditions. Thinking about buying one but id hate to do it just for looks.
Also- correct me if im wrong but this can only be turned on via off road menu right?

Don’t have, but have driven in snow before, low beams are best as high beams make it like your driving through a star trek warp scene. I’d imagine the light bar would do the same. Won’t have mine until the restock the OEM glue tho. ā€œParts on orderā€

1. Did they start selling them or are you getting one off of eBay?

2. You don’t have to go into the off-road menu. It’s available under the lights menu once installed.

3. No experience with driving it at night in the snow. I try to avoid it and don’t live in a situation where it’s likely to become a necessity.

Found one on ebay. Seems like a good price (compared to what tesla would charge) but im not sure if i even really want it (god forbid i need a new windshield but goodbye lightbar if i do). I would probably afix it similar to how @hemiarch did. I dont really have anywhere to offroad nearby, let alone night off roading.

i just didnt know how high of an angle the light makes and if it would get that ā€œwarp driveā€ effect that @UberNoob mentioned. If it does, then i EXTRA have no reason to buy it other than looks…

I’m certain that you would if you had it on. It actually aims pretty high. You could turn on the ditch lights only to avoid that I guess.

The ditch light are actually very interesting. They fire out at 45 degrees and cast almost zero light forward.
my light bar btw, currently still:

Do they cast most of their light out to the sides? Thats honestly my biggest issue during bad snow storms is being able to see the edge of the road.

Yes. Two modes (or I guess three -2 groups of lights)) Front only, ditch lights only, both. But remember in almost all states none of this is legal on paved public roads.

Yes. I will shoot you a video tomorrow evening because I’m at work and don’t have the truck with me. My wife took it to Costco and I took the X.
It’s completely to the 45 degree plane and not forward. This was absolutely not true of my prior aftermarket lighter which was brighter but not as controllable or screen integrated.

I used to live in Vermont and would 100% have used the ditch mode if it was available to me in a snowstorm when I’m the only one out on the road for miles but the plows.
I also don’t know of any cop who’d be enough of an asshole to pull you over and ticket you in that circumstance.

Im considering a mounting method that still uses adhesives but perhaps a less permanent adhesive strip on the windshield, like high capacity command strips and incorporates relatively flat metal brackets on either side that goe along the roof to the front roof mounts to do most of the work of holding it in place.

The idea is that if i ever need to remove it (windshield replacement) it could be put back on relatively easily.

any thoughts/critiques?

It would be the absolute worst lighting option available for you in those conditions. The daytime running light on the frunk is dangerous at night in the driving snow. All those lumens on the roof would multiply that hazard and prevent you from seeing ANYTHING but snow. Worse than jumping to hyperspace.
