I personally prefer for the CT to sound like a fire truck.

My only concern is how recognizable is the fire truck sound especially traveling at speed when there are multiple environmental sounds on the road. The sound from a real horn component, while not the best sound, is easily recognizable at far distances (perhaps due to horn's frequency?). Because the fire truck sound is created from a speaker and not a horn component, plus since it's not what drivers typically expect, does it properly alert other drivers on the road as a horn should do. Also, how well does the fire truck sound travel in various distances and environments.
I'm sure they had to meet certain db criteria for a street legal horn.
They could have given us "La Cucaracha", would have gone with the stainless-steel dumpster meme.

Since this topic came up, hoping I can piggy-back a related question: To my knowledge, I never made this change when I picked up the new CT Foundation Series in June. The permanency of it would certainly have given me pause.

Nonetheless, the horn appears to have been changed prior to delivery. The first time I tried to use the horn, I was pretty surprised.

Any thoughts on how I get the original horn reinstated? Could a service center visit do it? I don't hate what I assume is the fire truck sound, but I didn't select it.

When did you take delivery?

I love the fire truck horn! I was under the impression that Tesla made it the default horn at some point in time, no?

I didn't take the new horn because of the irreversible nature of it. However I thought I could always upgrade later if needed. But it's sounding like that choice was irreversible both ways, so now I'm stuck with the OG horn (which is fine I guess). Trying to keep my truck as original as possible since VIN is 700's

Since the fire truck sound is irreversible, it might be good to not install it. Your OG CT will be rarer than other ‘24s because it has the original horn. In 25 years that could be a premium feature that nobody else has.
meh, I like my Fire Truck horn, given the modest CT sales, I think most of these trucks will be rare (esp the FS builds)

June 25th or so. If they made it default, that would explain things.

First week I thought I went thru about 10 horn sounds that you could change? Aruga and some others... settled on fire truck for the deep note. Didn't work tho on some lady constantly veering to the right into our lane? Maybe people don't know to recognise it?

I used the link to change to the new sound, not revert.

I never get a reaction when I use the new horn sound. It's as if nobody can hear it at speed. I installed an air horn using the switch for Frunk Power to operate it with a 48vt to 12vt converter.

Yes, it is the default (only) option on new builds due to the original horns no longer being installed on the truck. That is also why the update is not reversible, they don't have tracking on which vehicles have the discrete horn.

You cannot get the original horn reinstated. Once done it’s irreversible. It’s a software update that turns off the circuitry to the physical horn and routes you to the speaker.

If you’re saying you bought a FS/CT in June of this year there are two possibilities as to why you have the new horn. All new cars after a certain point (11/24) were shipped with the new horn, or if you bought a loaner manufactured before that date, somebody at the SC must have updated it.

Irrespective of how it happened, it can’t be undone.

The link previously mentioned worked!
Congrats. I’m OG horn forever. It’s an instant signifier that I bought my truck in the before times. I love it!

I always thought you were making a mistake; but, I didn’t like the idea that you were stuck and couldn’t have it if you wanted it. So, I’m very glad this worked out for you!

Even though you’ve made a huge irreversible mistake!!! 😏
