Will have to see how they handle FSD required disengagements (still a lot) or claims on or off FSD. Especially if ASS is released in time, etc. They have to make a profit and Tesla's can be just as $$$ to fix for sure or total at times still.

As of now FSD does not drive safe for us every day. I can confidently say it would crash at least 3 times on my ~15 mile drive to/from town in at least ~4 spots that it always makes the same deadly mistake.

That hasn’t been my experience.

I would estimate that FSD can drive me 95% of my driving without intervention. One nuisance mistake it always always makes is attempting to turn into a shopping center (which has its own turn lane) instead of the upcoming main road. Other than that, very good.
if that 95% was essentially insured for ā€œfreeā€ I would like that!

This is how FSD will become necessary. Insurance companies will reduce your policy cost if for example your car can record that you use FSD 50% of driven miles - maybe cut your cost down 50%.

All Tesla has to do is provide a feature that records the percent of driving that uses FSD.
It will quickly show that FSD miles has a much safer record than human driving,

This will make Tesla’s FSD a bargain at $8,000 and prove to the naysayers that FSD is not dangerous - and will grow the use such that traffic deaths begin to fall. Not good for car companies that like to sell parts or body shop owners and paint companies etc. not good for car companies that do not offer FSD.

I would think musk would likely license the technology to other car companies as developing their own systems would take years and zillions of dollars at this point and Tesla technology will continue to get better and better given the growing installed base.

When are we going to get 14 for the cybertruck!

I am a porsche, Ferrari corvette owner car but but my fsvorite car is my cyberbeast ! My car but friends have no understanding of how amazing FSD is or how well it actually works. Musk needs to do some better marketing - maybe do more official FSD media events or get some movies or tv shows to use FSD like they do other product placements—

Car magazines like road and track ignore this crazy technology —/ I want one of his roadsters that is coming!!!

Lemonade isn't available in my state yet, but they're working on it. I like their Pay-Per-Mile methodology and I could see a time where the rate is based on FSD miles directly from the Tesla API telemetry, so even if you disengage for a short time on occasion, it shouldn't matter much.

As it is, Tesla's on FSD (Autopilot category) are dramatically safer than the average driver:

Tesla Cybertruck Lemonade Insurance makes Tesla offer to insure FSD miles for "almost free" FSD_safety_record

Finally!

Tesla Full Self-Driving just got an insurance offer from Lemonade Co-founder and President Shai Wininger that might be too good to pass up, as he wants to insure vehicles on FSD for ā€œalmost free.ā€

ā€œIf @Elonmusk is game, we’d be happy to explore insuring Tesla FSD miles for (almost) free.ā€
On my way out of Gilroy yesterday I was driving on FSD and it hit a median in a slow left turn. Fortunately it didn’t break yet another fairing but that would have been ā€˜on them’ as far as I am concerned. I should think that Lemonade would want more assurance from Tesla that this kind of thing would stop before taking on the liability.

Are they going to give you a prorate discount for however many miles you use FSD?

How are they going to tell? Dongle? Self-report? What?

Why would Tesla need to team with Lemonade, or anyone else, to offer low-cost insurance for Tesla vehicles? Earlier this year, they starting moving in exactly the opposite direction: cutting out insurance company partners and underwriting Tesla Insurance directly.
For the first time since launching Tesla Insurance in 2019, Tesla will begin underwriting its own policies, starting in California.

Tesla Insurance originally debuted in California and has since expanded to several U.S. states. Until now, policies were underwritten by State National, a subsidiary of the Markel Insurance Group. However, Tesla is now transitioning to fully in-house underwriting, beginning with its home state.
Furthermore, Tesla doesn't need a partner to offer discounts to FSD users:
FSD-Driven Discounts: Tesla has already begun offering insurance discounts for drivers using Full Self-Driving (FSD). By underwriting its own policies, Tesla could expand these incentives, potentially offering greater discounts to frequent FSD users in the future.
So the Lemonade offer seems pointless, unless maybe Lemonade has regulatory approval to operate in certain states where Tesla Insurance has not yet been approved.

Yikes... I use FSD for nearly 90 percent of my driving and drive around 900 miles a week.. And it hasn't ever hit anything other than a couple potholes. If i had a situation where it hit the median, I'd probably be scared away from using it for a long time.
