Well it happened to me. Smelt something dead coming from the bed, next day flies were collecting around the tonneau tunnel opening and then I was able to get a camera down there and confirm. I scheduled a service appointment to address this and a few other things while there. I really want Tesla to confirm no damage that needs to be corrected (thinking chewed cables). No errors from the truck so nothing obvious. I did a quick search and did not find any similar post (maybe I missed them). Anyone else seen/heard/have advice? Thanks.

Yup thought of that but not seeing any slender flexible vacuum crevice tool over 25 inches long online. I hope that Tesla either has one much longer or has a way to access the area (thru an access panel). In order to get the photo I had to close the tonneau and crouch under it since the it blocked the view retracted. The borescope I used to get the photo was slender and several feet long. Not as simple as it sounds. The appointment is not until 12/11 so we will see what happens in the meantime.

Honestly, you can try to remove the bed floor and possibly the front wall to see if that gives you enough room to clean it out. Unfortunately the tonneau cassette might have to be removed to get between the tonneau and the truck body.

Yea I was afraid of that. As long as the smell dissipates in a reasonable amount of time I may leave it for Tesla. Besides the odor (which will fade over time) my main concern is chewed cables causing a short/open. Hopefully they have seen this before and have an action plan. We will see and I will report back with their findings / recommendations. Thanks.

I always wondered if there is a drain or some kind of opening down there. Like what happens if the cover has snow or water on it and you retract it?

Try a local pest removal company, they might have the tools to get in there maybe.

I can recall that smell by looking at your photos, I would hate to be in that CT.

But it does make sense to have Tesla check out for other damage.

I will try checking with a pest removal company, thanks for the idea.

The good thing is the smell stayed primarily outside the cabin so luckily you do not smell it inside. But you’re right it has a distinct undeniable smell. I have been driving around with the tonneau open to help ventilate and it seems to be working. Thanks.
