So would YOU recommend doing this in the rain?
I feel like if this was truly beneficial they would have automated it no?
After all, the car knows when it’s raining because there is a warning that says FSD may be degraded or something like that (can’t remember the precise wording)
It is automated, turning it on takes the delay out of the front engaging, which can be useful on slippery surfaces where you don't want to wait to TC to do it's thing. Think of pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy main road where a momentary delay could cause issues.

I've noticed it come on automatically, a couple of times, when driving (probably too fast) on gravel roads. In one case, I definitely noticed the truck make an adjustment as I was drifting the rear wheels a little bit - the truck righted itself surprisingly quick, and I didn't feel anymore "wagging" after that. Truth be told, it threw a little cold water on the fun I was having at the time, but there are other menu options I could have selected to keep the party going.
Isn’t that kind of fun what Baja mode is for?

I can measure a slight change in sound when engaged.

Yet when driving near Diddy's house I turn it on and lock up the rear diff.
Funny. Good joke.

It wouldn't hurt, but I've never done it.
What I have done (in the before times) is turned on AWD in the Sierra before merges (dirt to pavement, roundabouts) where acceleration is needed and front wheels will have more traction .
Cybertruck is way more balanced and reacts faster and Beast is primarily front wheel anyway, so haven't felt the need.
I do wonder if it makes sense in tow mode though...

"wet" roads doesn't include rain? haha! Oh ok!
That’s exactly why I posted rhis. The language in the UI makes it sound like we should be using this a lot more frequently than I have. Wanted to know what others are doing.

ALl good. I dare say most don't use it or know of it. When the roads are real wet, I tend to go in and enable it. After my experience yesterday it's only a good thing to enable when road conditions are wet, icy, slippery, etc.

I wouldn't turn it on unless I noticed a problem that needed fixing. If it does what Mongo suggests (turns both motors on all the time) then it will impact your efficiency. If it is offering nothing that you need, why take the efficiency hit?

I'm confident that a hit to efficiency is why it's not fully automatic. If traction gets bad enough, it probably comes on automatically, in the background.

I think it is vital for CyberBeast trucks. There is a whole 'nuther' forum dedicated to the "skipping" of the front tires under modest acceleration on questionable road surfaces (with CB trucks). I notice it on acceleration over pot holes, gravel, ice, rain, and anything else that compromises your traction. It'll feel like a loud, "clunk" when the front tires skip (especially going around a corner) in a CB truck.
I wish there was an option to turn it on and have it persist, but, unfortunately it resets after you get out.

Not persisting is super annoying on a snowy day!

This is slippery surface weather. And the OEM Goodyear AT tires to me are not great in the snow. Plows to easily and don’t like to bite while sliding sideways
(on purpose). Nokians are on the way.

Are you getting the Nokian Outpost nATs? I put those on 2 weeks ago and we ended up getting a foot of snow last weekend and it made the world of difference compared to the OEM ATs. I'm very happy with them as they are very sure-footed and it helped with my confidence in letting FSD 14.2.1 run on it's own a bit. Still trying to figure out range hit given weather sharply changed just after getting them on so comps are a bit hard but suspect 5-10% impact.

Anyone know if it’s bad to drive with it on with non-slippery roads?
I drive mountain roads where it will be dry then in shaded corners it can be ice/snow then back to dry.

Last year I had to engage and disengage the slippery roads during these intermittent conditions. If not engaged regen braking would have me spin out. Not clear if if I can drive on dry roads with it engaged.

Hard to answer because I still don’t fully understand what it does. Reading the range of explanations just in this thread makes me confused.
