Stupid question (maybe) why tap into the trailer wiring? Why not tap into the reverse lights the truck already has? That should eliminate any trailer light issues.
I did, I made a harness to make it plug and play.

Into the rear lights you mean not trailer? Did it work without any warning lights? If you did maybe you can post a pic of how you did it to help OP, he said he didnt know how to get to those wires.

it isn't really a warning light .. it is just letting you know that a trailer is "connected" (or really just trailer wiring). I have multiple sets of lights plugged into my trailer light outputs for light bar brake/directional/reverse lights (one on the bumper and one up high on a cross beam that has a front LED flood light and a rear brake/directional/reverse lights). Every time I drive I do have to hit the little gear icon on the pop up window to tell the truck I am not actually in trailer mode - but I don't think it hurts anything as long as you set it to not really trailering :). If you leave it as is (and the trailer light is green) I believe the truck will try to brake harder? The range takes an automatic hit if I forget to set it to yellow. But, having it yellow isn't a problem, I don't think?
But it adds another thing to the list when getting into the truck that you don’t need to do. Let’s say you have a switch controller to the 48v for lights and accessories, and things plugged into the bed outlets as well.

At a minimum you would have to turn on the power feed (if it has t switched off), acknowledge the bed outlet door is open, then acknowledge the trailer alert just to get driving or FSD.

The reserve lights are 12v not 48. Have plug and play harness for the reverse light, simple easy morimoto boost bar add on.

Where did you tap into? The tailgate? And any alerts?

Just unplugged one of the reverse lights plugged in my inline adapter and plugged the reserve light back in. Light runs less than 2amp. The stock reverse light is 16v and morimoto is 9-16v.

Where did you tap into? The tailgate? And any alerts?

If handily available, would you have a link to the connector types? And to the light source?

Thank you, Rippin1Gear!

On the first point, I hear you .. it is annoying to have to do. I keep hoping there will be a software update that allows you to toggle something that says don't ask me about a trailer, as I am using the trailer lights for a standard directional/brake lightbar! :)

I don't understand about the switch controller plugged into the bed outlets ..... that is an entirely different thing - a much larger thing! The light bars I have are just plug and play with a normal trailer connector, so it made sense to use the trailer connectors provided for what I wanted

top light:

bottom light (split on either side of license plate):

I am very interested in adding a backup light, and making the connector adapter to the existing reverse light ... I love lights!!

Ok - I have to ask because of my OCD .. could you not center the light when you installed it through the trailer hitch cover? :)

I do the same thing before each drive!

Thanks for the info!
Did you just mount it to the license plate?
Just curious why you made 2 adapters? Or is it just one and you showed both ends? Just don’t understand why there are 4 total connectors? I feel dumb :(

The lamp sticks out the back and will hit the tow hitch.
