I took mine in to SC for courtesy cleaning after the software complained it was dirty. The SC had to replace the cover and remount GPS unit inside because they damaged the plastic while performing the cleaning. I don’t think Tesla plastic is meant to get hot or be exposed to direct sunlight…something makes their plastic get brittle after a year or so.
There are many kinds of plastic. You can crush a water/soda bottle and it will stay intact, as it's very flexible. Conversely, disposable cutlery is fairly rigid but bend it and it will snap. Seems like the Glare Shield is made of the latter material.

That's perfectly fine, except for the tabs.

So it looks like I might need to replace the Glare Shield periodically, but at least I don't need to replace any spark plugs

I think it’s abundantly clear they chose poorly for this part. But they’ll learn and adapt and someday roll it into an ever improving product, presumably.

What’s the fix after Tesla cleaned mine? 15min defrost and 10min drive to work… 2 days in a row can’t use FSD with it being 30deg out.

No just a ton of moisture. That is after total of 25min of max defrost.
Maybe leave AC on a bit after exiting vehicle? Something needs to be done to lower humidity…definitely have to kill the air recycling feature for it to work optimally.

The enclosed area with the cameras includes a fan, but IDK if that is used for the defrost cycle, or is just for cooling. Either way, it will be very difficult to rid that area of moisture without any airflow. Perhaps the fan is malfunctioning?

This is a good idea. My GPS unit started to malfunction because the plastic mount failed (it lives inside the camera housing). I bet everything in there will fail when exposed to direct sunlight for too long (in sunny dry places).

I had my camera cleaned recently at service center. I then started to hear a rattle. I got lucky it turned into a what sounded like bb rolling around the black beauty cover housing. Found this little black screw but couldn't find where it may have went. Any ideas? I'm hopeful service dropped it replaced it but couldn't find the original. Hopeful. Secondly, this is the first time I've taken review mirror down finally. That beauty box for me isn't the most snug. Is everyone else kinda not very snug?

Most likely just one of the loose screws that fell out of the service tech's head while he was in there...pretty common actually...

I thought that too. I know I would have dropped it three times before throwing it...lol. I'm hopeful he put one back in its place. Glad to not have noise from it rolling around now. I'll 3d print a cover to fit the rearview mirror hole.

There is only 1 screw requiring removal for the cleaning procedure, which secures the rearview mirror. Everything else is tabs/clips.

Best guess: they broke the glare shield tabs, and thus replaced it, but dropped a screw somewhere along the line. They replaced the missing screw, but now you've found it and have a souvenir.
