I’ve been getting this message for the past couple of days, first 2:times i microfibered over the windshield where the camera is, but last time just cleared the history and immediately got a response showing no camera problem. It seems like there’s a bug in the last update as this never happened before

it’s pretty easy basically remove the rear view with a Torx T20 screwdriver. Then you pry down the windshield camera glare cover, it’s just held on by 4 clips, I didn’t even fully remove mine just pull it down enough to clean the glass, then just clean the haze from the glass.

I get the same warning in the morning and evening when the sunlight hits the cameras just right. Annoying.

unsure if it’s related, but I have a service appointment on Monday, and Tesla added this camera cleaning line on their own.

This appears to be a manufacturing defect. I’m experiencing the same problem — dirt collects between the housing that covers the rear-view camera on the windshield. Tesla has already cleaned it for me twice within a year, but after the warranty expires, they charge $60 per cleaning.


The cleaning process involves removing the black box attached to the rear-view mirror, cleaning the inside, and reattaching it. It’s not an easy task for most people, and several users have reported breaking the housing while attempting it themselves.


The most effective way to get Tesla’s attention is to post about the issue on X (formerly Twitter) and tag Tesla and Elon Musk. (There are some posts showing how to remove and clean it, but it’s a tricky job and easy to mess up!)

They were charging for cleaning the off gassing from the windshield in front of the camera. Now they seem to acknowledge it's their fault and are prompting for an express service visit to get it cleaned. Hopefully, after the cleaning, the glare messages will go away.

I used to get it very occasionally and cleaning the outside always worked. Recently I had to get a front tire replaced and I noticed they added that internal cleaning job, and now I get the warning every day when the sun is at an angle! And it often cicks me out of FSD which I never saw before.

That’s what happen to me, never had before and after last service they did cleaning and the warning coming up nonstop in the morning or evening

True- had Tesla clean underneath the cover and now I get these camera warnings. The mistake was putting the camera underneath the windshield glass - better if it had been placed up higher above the windshield without glass over the top -

Not sure why I get these camera warnings warning after they cleaned the backside of the windshield…

I still get random wiper sweeps as well and no water - so likely going to scratch the windshield one of these days — seems the windshield is very soft compared to other glass.

After my cleaning, I get no FSD disengagements and never get phantom wipes.

Yep. The unfortunate truth is Tesla service is just some dudes, possibly with a dirty microfiber cloth, making your situation worse. It’s worth taking the time to figure out how to clean it right. It’s really not that hard, a bit cramped space-wise and be gentle with the glare shield clips. All Tesla service guides are available online:

I would say, if it works fine now - ask them not to do it. It wasn't a choice they gave me - they just did it!
