Guys... I think we may have had our first glimpse at HW5. Hear me out.
In the past, the Tesla Validation Fleet would have their Lidar equipment mounted on the top only. This would suffice and provide Tesla the exact real-world positioning it needs.

Comparing the previous Tesla Validation Fleet with the new ones spotted.

This time on the other hand we have new cameras mounted low on the bumper by the corners. What if what we're seeing here is the HW5 camera suite. This would significantly help with cross-traffic, parking situations, low-level visibility, etc.
This is all speculation of course but it's also interesting to note both the CT and Model Y have this camera assembly and positioning. If it was only for Robotaxi, they wouldn't waste their money putting it on the CT as well - we all know Tesla don't like to spend money where they don't have to.

I appreciate the speculation, but the AI5 chip design hasn't even been given final design (as of last month), much less go into test fabrication, much less get put into a test vehicle.

Are they testing new cameras? Possibly.

I’m not sure if you’re implying it but that is for R&D only. No way that’s any kind of future production configuration.

Yes, R&D placement for now. Most likely integrated into bumper - In which case, a retrofit solution would definitely be possible. We just have to hope there will be room for the MCU this time around. The issue with MCU 4 was it was too big to retrofit into the current MCU 3 cavity. Hopefully, this time around, they've planned for this so future upgrade is possible.

By MCU, you mean HW.

It wasn't just size, but cooling, connections, etc.

There is no more room on the HW4 board for additional cameras on the CT. The S/X have a different, larger board.
