The Ram 1500 REV is still scheduled for 2026 availability, so within the next 6 months or so. Test vehicles with manufacturer's plates have recently been spotted in public.

Styling is obviously conventional, like the F-150 Lightning. Two ports on the driver's side, one for charging (I think it is CCS) and one for the gas tank. Battery pack is 92 kWh, gas tank is 27 gallons. No frunk, because a 3.6L Pentastar engine is there. Instead there are locking side boxes at the top of the bed rails; the one on the driver's side has power outlets.

Ram claims "maximum" payload of 2,625 lbs, but that might only be on the most stripped-down trim; the actual payloads on typically configured vehicles could be lower. Claimed towing of 14,000 lbs. Claimed 647 HP, 610 lb-ft torque.

The thing that really sets the 1500 REV apart from all previously marketed EV pickups is the advertised range at 690 miles. Of course, this is only possible because it is an "Extended Ranged Electric Vehicle" or "EREV", which uses the gasoline engine as a generator to power the electric motors. The ICE can only be used as a generator; it has no connection to the wheels. The electric-only range will be much lower, supposedly around 140 miles.

Great for towing while allowing pure EV when commuting.
I can't consider it a "pure" EV as long it has to go in for regular oil and filter changes. These have to be done on schedule even if you use it in EV mode all the time. And you had better not do that because the gas in the tank will gum up!

If I had to regularly tow anything long distances I would just get either a 3.5L EcoBoost V-6 or a Duramax Diesel and call it a day. It makes little sense to have a large battery and a gas tank, exhaust system, cranks and valves, starter motor, ignition system, emission system, etc. etc. etc.

Probably within 5 years expanded and faster pull-through charging opportunities will make a pure electric the better option than even a Duramax.

Missed opportunity for a T-Rex EV

You're right, it's still a hybrid. But it's closer to a pure EV than existing mild hybrid and PHEV designs. Existing hybrids are basically ICE designs supplemented by electric. The 1500 REV is more like an EV design supplemented by ICE.

If Ram ever opts to make a pure EV, it should be relatively easy to modify the 1500 REV design. Just lose that 3.6L Pentastar engine and the gas tank, then add more battery.

We use the Explorer less than 1,000 miles a year and its oil monitor lets it go a year between changes. Which takes 30 minutes and < $100 in the parking lot. Truck wouldn't need ramps and would go quicker.

Regularly != occasionally. By buying that truck, you do have "a gas tank, exhaust system, cranks and valves, starter motor, ignition system, emission system, etc. etc. etc.". Plus DEF (F-150 frontal area under 65 ft² for bumper pull). Adding EV adds a battery and motor. Only question is whether it is in a separate vehicle with additional registration, insurance, sales tax, tires, and parking spot, or integrated.

Probably within 5 years expanded and faster pull-through charging opportunities will make a pure electric the better option than even a Duramax.
That would be nice; but in the meantime, I can drain the pack going below the freeway speed limit in under 100 miles. So I ideally need pull through charging every 80 miles or so. Even then, it's a lot of time spent charging. Bigger pack would help though...

If they release this truck with a CCS port I'm may just keel over from laughter.

Only problem I see with it is it’s still a shitty dodge… if I’m going to have a 27 gallon gas tank I’ll get a good one like a tundra. I’d rather drive a ragged out Corolla over ANY dodge…

So, TWO things can go wrong....gas and EV components. Nice. And given Dodge horrible quality/durability, this is gonna be a fun journey!
