I do not buy vehicles thinking of the depreciation value. I buy what I like, drive it for as long as I can, and the numbers all work themselves out in the wash when I go to sell. I used the vehicle to make memories and have fun. If you look at vehicles through the lens of a “tool” then you just enjoy using it. No one buys a power tool thinking of how much they’ll get for it in 5-10 years. They use the tool, make things, and enjoy their lives. Same goes here. Cheers!

I'm really tired of people perpetuating this idea that vehicles are somehow supposed to retain their initial value over long periods of time lol.

If you don't own a rare collectors edition, these machines will ALWAYS be worth less than they were new.

People like to use the Foundation pricing as a reference without mentioning that the Foundation series included $20K in extras that you cannot sell with the truck.

The Foundation series included: FSD ($8K), Premium connectivity (lifetime): ~$1,000, $2,500 Tesla Shop voucher.

Do these items go with the truck when sold?

I beleive FSD and Premium Connectivity stay with the FS vehicle but the shop voucher is probably tied to the original owner's account.

However, the hardware for Powershare, the Universal Wall Connector, Mobile Connector, and PowerShare Gateway usually don't make it to the used market with the vehicle. I've also seen original FS owners retain the bed hardware goodies also, if they're getting another CT.

Eh...video was clickbaity IMO. Taking peak sales numbers by flippers is disingenuous at best; malicious at worst. Only thing I agree with is that CT sales will be very low (<$20k in ~10 years), but the curve to get there isn't so steep that we'll see massive drops in ~18 months. IMO, we'll see big drops when $59/69k trucks come off lease/into the used market; ~3-5 years.

Main thing I got from his video is don't use Cars & Bids to sell cars. Offer on my '24 before the buy back was $70k. That's more than what he claims CTs sold on his site.

A typical motor vehicle loses 50% of it's value in 5 years, 80% loss in 8 years. If you want rising valuations, sell your Tesla and buy $TSLA.

I admit that I would not even consider a used EV (Tesla or otherwise) after expiration of the drivetrain warranty. It's difficult to gauge pack health (other than via the odometer) and the cost of a replacement could exceed the vehicle's value.

Salty side-note: I bought a $1000 dishwasher and skipped the extended warranty because I paid for "quality". It stopped working 1 month after the 1-year warranty expiration, and the manufacturer was unsympathetic. Cost of professional repair: $950. :cautious:

He’s smoking blended hundred dollar bills rolled in hundreds dollar bills, lit with hundred dollar bills.

He’s a great content creator. This is obviously juicy content. The title is extremely misleading, he goes on to be a little bit more clear about the outliers in the video.

What I have gathered from the video is, if you purchased a regular all-wheel-drive, and especially you for the tax credit, you’ve had extremely minimal depreciation.

Early adopters had higher, which is normal.

Also, “50’s” is not average, that’s the single lowest trade. Who knows the condition or mileage.

Look up used cybertruck on Carvana and Carmax that are spoken for and then talk about depreciation. Used premiums are close to $80k and cyberbeasts are $85k-$95k. I just bought a 2025 with paid for fsd. But I did just sell a plaid x privately for a pretty penny with 60k miles.
