Tesla one day will only make cybercabs. Musk expects no one to want to drive as if it is an unwanted chore instead of enjoyable. He is big city centric and apparently has no clue where 95% of the country land wise lives and what their transportation needs are. So yes, the 3, Y and Cybertruck will cease to exist sooner than later.

It's crazy that Tesla doesn't have an offering in this huge segment. Model X wasn't even really a SUV, closer to a luxury minivan.

But then again they don't see themselves as a car company anymore... so how they make decisions lineup wise I haven't a clue.

Elon has indicated that Tesla has no plans to develop any new manually-driven car models beyond the forthcoming Roadster:

During Tesla’s Q1 2026 earnings call on April 22, Elon Musk made a brief but notable comment about the long-awaited next generation Roadster while describing Tesla’s future vehicle lineup. “Long term, the only manually driven car will be the new Tesla Roadster,” he said.

It will be a sad day when production of the CT is discontinued. Like with every vehicle it's eventually going to happen.

I think the next major update will be new battery cell technology. I am confident it happen by 2030 and give the CT real towing range.

Maybe the CT will have a long production run like the Mercedes G-Class SUV. It's been in production since 1979 (47 years) and shows no signs of slowing down. Buyers are still lining up for the 4.0L TT V8 powered G63 hence MB dealers get $10k-$30k over MSRP due to demand being higher than supply.

Well, Tesla does. But they aren't very communicative.

Back in Q3 2024, Tesla announced "positive gross margin" on Cybertrucks. But in Q3 2024, CTs were starting at $99,990 (Foundation AWD) and $119,990 (Foundation Cyberbeast). So the average transaction price had to be above $100,000.

Today, most CTs start at $79,990 (non-Foundation Premium AWD) or $69,990 (non-Foundation Standard AWD), with a few at $99,990 (non-Foundation Cyberbeast). Average transaction price is probably below $80,000.

So CTs were reported to be profitable when selling at >$100,000 in Q3 2024. But that doesn't mean they are equally profitable selling at <$80,000 today.

My guess would be that Tesla's margins on current-model CTs are low. And we know that the volume is low: Tesla delivered 336,681 vehicles globally in 1Q 2026; maybe 5,000 of those (or about 1.5%) were CTs. The CT could be making a little money for Tesla, but probably not very much.

Even with all Cybercabs and Tesla Semis, you still need a truck or van for deliveries and work-type stuff, so I bet they'll keep it, maybe just without a steering wheel. What makes it easy to remove a steering wheel, and what kind does the Cybercab use for validation and testing? Steer-by-wire Cybertruck steering wheel!

Price is a huge factor--Tesla sold out it's used offerrings very quickly.

As a lifetime pickup owner, I think trailer range is a deterrent to EV trucks for a good percentage of buyers. GM leads on that front but their E trucks aren't sales leaders.

I think the CT has plenty of time left, and I boldly predict a full size SUV on the platform by 2050. If I'm wrong and still alive then, beers on me.

Your second sentence pretty much disproves your first sentence.

And I don't have the statistics at hand, but they show that most pickups don't tow regularly and certainly not long enough distances for the range limitations of an EV to be a factor.

Every new thing with a new look takes getting used to. Unfortunately there are not enough cybertrucks around to get used to what it looks like. Someone once said to me, yeah but it looks so weird. And I replied I think all those blunt shaped front end trucks look weird. And I meant it, because I'd been on this site almost daily and other CT sites YouTube etc. I was quite used to the cybertruck look, looked quite normal to me. Unfortunately it would take a month or so of ownership for a person to really begin to appreciate how good this vehicle is. I can say "It is the best vehicle I've ever owned" their opinion would be of course you have to say that for a vehicle you paid over $125K. Well, no I didn't, I paid less than the truck you are driving. And you have to drive your damn truck and You have to set at a traffic light with your foot on the brake. When I say my truck drives it self. Their response is "my truck does that too" what they actually mean is, there is a map and a voice that tells them where to turn. My only complaint is that there is not enough cybertrucks out there for people to get used to it's looks, so as to we do not have to be having this conversation, this thread.

Yep. I'll go out on a limb and say I expect the $60k sale will double the number of CTs on the road. I also think at that price they were still making money on them.
