I would just tell them they can look up all the specs and pricing at Tesla.com.

The fact that someone needs to ask such a question leads me to believe that they (1) could never afford such a vehicle and are not a potential customer and (2) they are ignorant to the fact they can look it up online instead of rudely asking a stranger

I got the question from a 7-year-old and I just said "one hundred... thousand dollars!" and waves my hands around for added effect. He was wowed. I might adjust my response for an adult.

At $100k it’s “well priced” but at $72.5 I would agree it’s a bargain for what it is
My thought exactly! When this truck is $72.5k AND gains the driving assist features it is missing, it now enters the deal territory currently dominated by the Lightning. My Lightning was $49k and does a lot of things the CT wishes it could do. At $100k, FS CT a expensive toy for people with money to burn.

This is why I don't want to respond to price, you're just going to make people upset. I think anyone saying this is a great deal, especially considering 12 months from now it will be 27.5% less expensive, seems pretty dense to both what they've purchased and the reality of average American incomes.

I say they start at $60k, and that this early one is $100k because they make you get all the options and pay a premium.
I say a similar thing. “ they start at 60k and can be as much as ~120k.” I don’t actually say what I spent, just say “no matter which one you want you’ll be waiting a long time, I waited 5 years.” Then this changes the subject.

Personally, I do not think it is rude at all to ask. The more transparency we can have about money, with anyone, the better. Helps make it so envy is less of a thing.

I tell them the price. If they dig deeper, I’ll break down 2019 price vs current vs Foundation.

If it’s somebody off the street, I’ll say, “it depends on what model you get and when you order it. It’s best to find the current price at Tesla.com”. That should satisfy the curious. If they don’t care enough to do that then I don’t see any reason to share such personal info as they are just being nosy.

Multiple times the first question asked by random people is how much did that cost? How do you guys respond to this. I’m trying to not come off as douchy or snoby. I’ve always driven old ass cars and this is a new world to me.
Least doughy response is probably: “if you don’t know than you can’t afford it.” ?
