Where did you see overnight delivery for the truck? If it was vin to delivery that just means the truck was already there.
I sat down for breakfast one morning and spit out my cheerios when the app said I had a VIN. I went to my SC and gave them the VIN. They said it rolled out of the factory that morning (Wednesday). I then went back on Friday to check its progress. The reps were all busy so I went to the side of the building and found my VIN. So produced on a Wednesday and at the SC on Friday morning (Colorado Springs).
They could just put parts in the vault while they are shipping trucks to SC’s.

Man that really sucks, hope they get you fixed and back out on the road soon. When people post their VINs, in your case 8800 is that the last 4 digits of the VIN? I'm assuming bigger numbers are later builds ?

That's correct. The last 6 of a VIN are sequential...larger in general means later. :)

Leaving the gym today the speakers start beeping and a red alert message on the screen: PULL OVER SAFELY Critical issue detected.

I then drove it to a parking lot and got out of the vehicle to try to restart it. Same error messages. Those errors went away after a few minutes so I put it in reverse, drove a few feet, then the beeping/alert came back. Called roadside and they told me to try rebooting the system by holding the two scroll buttons down until the screen restarts with the Cybertruck logo. This didn’t help, alerts came back so they called a tow truck to take it to the service center.

Service center calls me when the truck arrives and says it will “be some time before they can check it out”. I asked what he meant by that and he said they have some cars that have been sitting for 6 days and haven’t been looked at yet as they are backlogged. ?

I’ll be picking up the loaner vehicle they offered tomorrow. Assuming it will be 2-3 weeks or more before I see my truck again.

Miles: 500

I'm actually supposed to pick up my truck that is 'fixed' for this issue. Mine occurred about 20 miles after I picked it up...luckily right in front of my house. :) Also...I was able to let the truck go to sleep (let it sit for 30 mins or so), and it booted right up with no faults and I drove it into the SC.

I don't know what they did to fix it yet, but I'll post here once I know more.

My VIN is 4200s for reference...

I got my VIN on 4/26….REP says will be a few days….waiting on Transport in Austin…..4/28 your truck will be in Charlotte, NC tomorrow night 4/29………It was so fast I had to delay my delivery until 5/5 so i could financing and insurance ready to go, as my financing had dropped after 60 days. Then they went to clean it on 5/4 and called me saying it had the errors on the screen…..I said oh, you have had my truck since Tuesday and just now decided to take a look at it? They aren’t getting that many trucks at a time….but yeah it left Austin on 4/28 and was in Charlotte 4/29 ready for delivery the next damn day at that…..

Parts can fly on airplanes…..so should travel faster than a full size built truck!!! Where is the fucking Urgency from Tesla? It’s like Oh well, just be happy you have a broke truck…

There has been reporting that Musk laid off service center staff. Brilliant move...

Small positive update: I got a loaner (2023 Model S).
Small negative update: It was filthy. I spent around 3 hours detailing it so I don't have to drive around in a garbage can.

I am starting to really wonder if this a manufacturing failure more than parts….

Same shit on my truck, luckily it happened before delivery and it’s in service now, but I am VIN9299….

I asked rep if these are newly designed parts that they are replacing them with….she didn’t know…
I am gonna say it’s not, otherwise those new parts should have been on the manufacturing line considering this issue has been around since early VIN numbers….

That leaves two options.

1. They are just banking that only a % of these parts are failing and letting us take the gamble.(my problem with this option is how do we know we won’t get unlucky on the next part(s) also?

2. It’s a manufacturing defect, ie something wasn’t connected correctly or something is coming loose later due to faulty connections or locking mechanism at the connector.

Otherwise there would be a recall on these said parts by now???

I dunno part of me wants to tell them to give me a new VIN, I have that option since I haven’t taken delivery yet…but how do I know and you can’t know if the next truck will have same damn problem? So part of me thinks I should just let it get the fix especially since I’m not making payments yet.

I would be way more pissed in your situation.

Moreover I don’t won’t to end up like this guy!
I'd wager someone didn't meet quality standards.

So here's my story:

My VIN is in the 8800 range. The day I picked 'er up I immediately noticed that the cameras on the screen would randomly black out. I thought maybe it would fix itself with the 14.3 update. It didn't.

Then we started having an issue where after sitting for some time, usually overnight, the truck would not "wake up" when we got in and went to drive - regardless of if we used the phone key or card key. Sometimes we would wait 20 minutes! During that time the speakers would sometimes make loud, terrible buzzing noises and the screen would blink on and off. BUT, I have never seen the red flashing error message or have the truck leave me completely stranded.

I put in a service request via the app a couple days in. I will say that a Tesla employee named Alec has been great with regular communication thru the app. He asked for details and videos of what was happening, and after a couple days said they needed to order a new "car computer" that would take a week to get in.

So, I am waiting to get the call to drop it off, and hoping it comes back with a clean bill-of-health. Everything else about the truck seems to be excellent - fit/finish, lack of rattles, smooth drive.

Ya, we'd never be having this conversation if we all just went and joined the Toyota Tundra forum. But, I dunno, for some reason I'm feeling irrationally merciful.

It's been 100 years of the automobile essentially not evolving at all (thin steel shell on frame, petrol engine mounted to a complex mechanical transmission, essentially the same dashboard gauge-pod layout for decades, and constant maintenance required every 3000-5000 miles in the form of oil changes). But, in one decade, Tesla has turned that powerful and entrenched industry on its head.

And, ten years on, the Cybertruck turns THAT new industry paradigm on its head AGAIN!

So we are one of the first 10,000 or so humans in a world of eight-billion who get to be part of that. It won't go perfect. The first Model A was an incredible advancement, but needed constant attention from its owner to keep running everyday (I can hear the 1905 Facebook haters even as I type that).

Maybe we will all regret doing this. Or maybe this little band of Forum brothers/sisters will be here posting a decade from now...

"Remember when we did that thing back in '24? That was CRAZY, man!"

Great post! And sorry to hear of the issues you experienced as well. I’m thinking most early adopters will experience some issue large or small. I love the truck (aside from the issue I’m currently going through). The tow truck driver said I was his second Cybertruck tow so far and the other owner said buying the CT was the “worst decision he’s ever made”. I think it’s the coolest vehicle ever made, just has some production adjustments needed to be improved on over time.

My VIN is on the 8000s as well. I wonder at what mileage you can assume you’re risk of this has largely passed?

Ha I wouldn’t be so sure.. My 2021 Land Cruiser’s infotainment would crash randomly and the keyless entry was a constant hit or miss. On the other hand my CB is flawless (for now ?). So you never know.
