ProtectaClear amateur application completed. Easy to do!

I’m sorry Adrenalinwill, I wasn’t saying you were biased, I’m saying Colton’s representation of PC is biased. Reason I say that is, I’ve now seen his video, and I can say you have to go way out of your way to spill so much of the product on the CT that it runs and bleeds then rainbows all in the same area. You literally have to intentionally do that. And by the way, I actually did apply the product in about 4 hours for the first coat and 1 hour for the second coat. See the video. I also did it with about 2-3 Makers Mark Old Fashioneds on board. Yet I still couldn’t make the mess he did. He’s a professional I’m just a firefighter. Go figure.

No worries, everyone had a different experience and mine was similar to Colton’s. I have no bias against Everbrite and am just a normal Joe. I prepped and applied following the Instructions provided exactly. With each coat, it was too thick in the beginning and too thin and rainbow’d at the end. When overlapping after soaking to barely dripping, the coats looked perfect and then started to drip. Fixing it at that point was an even worse mistake. More power to you for your achievement, I thought I was pretty handy but failed miserably. ?

Main concern of mine was to make sure I picked up the drips right away.

I started yesterday at about 10:30 in the morning but did a heavy wheel wash before the car wash application. I’d say about 4 hours for the prep work and first coating, then I finished this morning putting a second coat on that only took about 1 hour.

How would you describe the feel of the surface? Does it feel like a painted clearcoat when you run your fingers on it? Does it feel slightly softer when you tap a fingernail on it? Does it make the surface more glossy? I just received my order and take delivery of my truck tomorrow so I might attempt this application on the weekend. Maybe I'll do a test application on a spare piece of metal first or something.

It does feel like there’s something there as opposed to the bare metal but nothing like PPF. I’m going to be washing it Thursday and putting up more pictures but my application came out smooth and so far looks awesome. Still curing.

My CT was the only vehicle to have some ProtectaClear installed and eventually removed. There were issues beyond the control of Protectaclear, the detailer was not familiar with applying the product, the weather was cold and rainy, and unable to leave the CT longer.

I have been following ProtectaClear for a while now and this is my thoughts on it. Detailers need to relearn how to apply this product, it is not a ceramic coating. I think the application of ProtectaClear needs time and patience for the initial application. My recommendation would be BKF paste and Windex the CT, wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol, and then apply ProtectaClear.

As for the Out of Spec Detailing review was disappointing, but to be fair Coleton has 10 years of detailing experience so he knows what he is talking about. The problem is he has never dealt with stainless steel body panels and most of all applying ProtectaClear.

I agree, the BKF paste and Windex is the best way known to really clean the CT. Thanks to OOS for finding that for us. I appreciate Coleton but he seriously came off against the product from the beginning then just bashed the heck out of it. For me to be an amateur and able to apply much better by just following directions made it hard for me to believe he really gave it a chance. You’re also right, it’s not a ceramic coating.

In that same video, he first applied a metal ceramic coat and lauded how well it applied and had minimal discoloration. I was a little disappointed that he didn't show if the ceramic coat reduced fingerprints or made them easier to clean off. From some limited research, DIY Detail has some pretty good reviews and ceramic coatings are good for ease of washing, but I think oily fingerprints are a new issue to be sorted. Hopefully there will be a follow up video on that.

Thank you @Noblelr3 for the video, I have a protectaclear original kit and have just been waiting for a really good application video before using it. This gives me really good faith in the product! I’m almost thinking of going to Home Depot and just getting a raw piece of stainless steel to practice on before I apply it to my CT. My main issue is I don’t have a garage, and my carport is next to vegetation that attracts a lot of bugs. I will need to either find an installer here in Silicon Valley or find a big parking garage to apply it in ??

No problem. Do not install around your home at all then. You really do not need to waste your money on spare SS if it doesn’t look right you just rub it out with solvent. The instructions on removal of the product are spot on. I had to completely redo my frunk top because of my over use of the product. Wiped it away in about 4-5 minutes then reapplied!
