See image below. All the tabs circled in blue must be separated. The best way to do this is take an osicalating tool and cut into the very top of those tabs where the OEM welds are. Cutt off as minimal as possible so it goes back together easier. Grind off just enough and then use a razor blade to break any remaining that still may be attached by a thin piece. This will make it the easiest to put back together once separated.

Now what you can't see in the photo because it has the foam backing pad blocking the upper black panel back. There are additional plastic welds on that panel. THOSE WELDS DON'T NEED TO BE CUT. I learned this the hard way on the first panel I took apart. Those welds hold the light mechanism to the black panel. The only reason you would need to cut those welds is if you wanted to reupholster the upper black trim as well. Assuming you are not, do not touch them.

I know the white last the test of time and can be cleaned, I just don't want to constantly clean finger prints and small smudges. Day 1 of ownership white panels had fingerprints. OCD kicked in too hard on it lol.
Understood! I would've preferred dark grey Alcantara like on my 2020 MYLR with black interior.

You're project has inspired me, haha!!

That’s interesting because the only thing I see is on the black armrests/pull handles which provides a contrast to Dusty fingerprints. Of course, if I were a mechanic and had black oil on my hands, then the white would show fingerprints but as of right now in real world use in the high desert, my white looks clean and my black shows light colored finger marks (dust, sunscreen, etc). That’s just my use case, obviously. ?

I’m stoked someone did this ( thank you! ) the white glare is terrilbe

I’m sooooo surprised this was put forward as a premium option for foundation series . It’s terrible.

Looks great, now tear it all apart and do it again while filming & photographing each step

seriously, thanks for doing this

I'll start by saying I hate the white trim. Just gets dirty too easily and nothing else on the truck is white. No idea why Tesla decided to run with it as the limited edition foundation option. If you wrap your truck white, ok I get it then making for a complete look, other than that, I'm not a fan.

I've been wanting to replace mine since well day 1. Finally, I bit the bullet and did it myself. My truck has a matte grey PPF wrap. and I wanted to bring that color inside. So I took a swatch of that grey wrap and went to an upholstery shop to try and find a fabric that was a close match to that shade of grey. I really wanted Alcantara which is a high-end type of suede, just like what the pillars and roof liner are made of in black from the factory.

With that, the upholstery shop had a grey Alcantara that was pretty dang close in the shade I wanted. That fabric wasn't cheap at all, bought 3 yards at $180 a yard. It's the real deal from Italy. Far cheaper fabrics are available for anyone who wants to do this themselves.

The next step was figuring out how to remove the panels, luckily was very easy, all just pressure clipped on, including main dash panel. Just pull essentially. The white trim was glued down really tight to the underplastic frame for all. So decided to leave the white trim on and contact cement the Alcantara directly over it. If I removed the white trim it would have been a nightmare to smooth out the factory plastic frame underneath. A very timely headache that potentially could end disastrous, so decided not to go down that path.

The hardest part was the door trim. The black top vinyl panel is plastic welded onto the lower white panel with the ambient light sandwiched in-between. Thus you have to cut those plastic welds to separate in order to re-upholster the white portion. The first door panel was trial and error, but figured out the best way to do it for the remaining 3 doors. Once re-upholstered, I then had to plastic weld them back together. Used a plastic staple welder and a little help from my friend JB Qwik weld for additional support.

Very happy with the end result, and YES the ambient lights all still work, and no more white!

Great work!!! What is the width of Alcantara fabric you have used and what is the color? Also - where did you you buy it from?

It's great that you made the look that fits for you, and great job too! ? But considering you live in CA, I'm surprised why you don't think a solar terrarium on wheels with a white interior would not be popular. I'm just surprised they didn't offer mostly all white interior but instead only white trim and forced only black seats on all models.

Awesome. Great project. Agree with you about the white. My FS has the tactical grey interior and at the time I remember being chastised by other owners for “leaving money on the table”. Still glad I skipped the white.
