Which way are you leaning? Test my theory or pay the foundation tax?
48 hours and still haven't pulled the trigger. Yesterday I drove an hour to the closest showroom with a cybertruck to sit in it, check the visibility, build quality, run my fingers over every edge and make my own fingerprints. Forgot to try and listen to the sound system (not sure if they allow that). Panel alignment was pretty good and I would have accepted delivery. It did have a defect/hump on the dash on the passenger side. Why not swap this part out? The showroom model's only job is to look good. Maybe they were just setting expectations. Is this "within spec" or a result of job cuts?

Maybe in 2 years, when my number is called again, there will be more options, better/more consistent build quality, better energy density, more pack sizes (none of this take up bed shit) and fully baked software.

This was my plan when I bought my MYP last fall and I'm going to stick to it.

I vote Nay on the Foundation tax.

You guys may be complaining about the "Foundation Series" tax or whatever, but I'll tell you this, the truck is amazing and mine is perfect and I'm glad I have it now. I don't know how long you all want to wait, but tomorrow isn't promised and mines in my driveway and it's amazing. Yolo

Just like folks were surprised to get the FS call so early, think the same will happen with regular production. Think this will start fairly soon and though take rates should be better, they’ll run through the list at a fast clip

I don’t see the non FS trucks being delivered before late 2025, I think all saying so is just wishful thinking . Not near as many ppl are passing up the invite as there are ppl waiting to get their hands on one ( especially the Beast )
Agreed. When it's available in Canada I'll have some serious thinking to do, as waiting for non-foundation could push me back another year at least. I'll bet the foundation take-rate is decently high for that reason.

Yes - we have seen this again & again with EVs (or for that matter a lot of high demand goods in the beginning of production. Happened with Model 3 in Q1 '19, even Leaf after a few months after first delivery. Basically once the enthusiasts with deep pockets get their cars, there needs to be some price cut to spur demand among others.

We are seeing white trims now almost immediately available after configuration.

ps : There is probably a long Gray trim orders now that they have to deliver, first, though.

White trim for CT never made much sense to start with.

Once we start seeing FS Cybertruck’s starting to stack up in Tesla inventory, ready for immediate purchase, we should be close.

I wonder if they will stop before my 117xxx number
Short answer:
They will not..

Long Answer:
It's a simple economic exercise.:
- The production facility is limited to a max Capacity of appx. 125K annually (2,400 per week)
- The current production is at around 1,000 units per week.

There are well over 2,000,000 units of pre-reservation as of 9/16/2023

More orders are added as people oblivion to the existence of CT and learned about it.

It will take years (plural) to produce 20% of conversion rate to FS.

Everyone who places the order for CT with get an opportunity to order the CT, this includes ppl ordering today.

Cheers!

Are most showrooms letting people go inside the CT now or only select ones? Any in SoCal?

no clue. I was checking recent pictures on google maps to see if a location had a cybertruck. I also went during the week in the morning.

Do you have a VIN or are you in Oct/Dec Delivery crowd?
No VIN yet. It's the next step...guessing a month or three out. But in it showed the Dual wait estimate was July - Oct and Beast Oct - Dec... For AZ. Different states different time estimates..want it yesterday. But payment not so much..

They are NOT!

All Cybertruck will be sold at 6/30 q2 push and due to the limited production capability, TESLA has instructed to all showrooms no inside demo allowed.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

I know what made to order means…. There is no solid proof or logic which supports they are doing such.

there are still 10+ Foundation Series sitting in my local Inventory Lot.. for over a week now…

They are. You are invited to configure and you proceed to order. They start building it then. Hence, they can then etch the panel based on AWD or Beast then.
Or they are intentionally building them with flaws.. letting them sit to ‘fix’ after it’s been sitting in the lot??
