I sliced a long pool noodle in half and set it in the gap. The noodle gets crushed when you close the bed and you get zero dirt in the bed that way. 30 miles driving on the beach over Memorial Day and no issues with it. The noodle has to be replaced after a few uses, but they are very cheap.

Is it a feature that we have to jerry rig our 100k trucks with foam and wood? I think us Tesla owners tolerate way too much

A "hermetically sealed truck bed" was never amongst the offered features. It's not water-tight, either.

It's a truck bed. ?‍♂

Not aksing for airtight, aren't they not supposed to keep the weather out?

Those that don't know seem to have plenty of smartass comments. I had a 4 mile gravel road detour and there was so much dust that 1 washing wasn't enough (at 35 mph). Nobody is asking for hermetically sealed but of the several pickups I've owned, none let that much dust in.

Actually, people do know what I was referring to. But here are some photos,..... and a fix with a 1/4 round piece of wood, laying nicely across the long gap.
People say a picture is worth a thousand words, because instead of misunderstanding that you meant the tonneau, they'd have known you meant the drain gap.

There is probably an unforeseen confluence between the tailgate gap and the underbody aero that causes the bed to excessively collect dust. They might even mitigate it in a future release, but getting a dirty truck bed is no indication of quality.

Going to have to make my own seal or something and just put it in place when off-roading and put it away when not.

This is normal on pickup trucks. My F150 is the same. It allows for water to drain out when it collects in the bed and you drive off.
