Now that we have the option to buy the Powershare from the Tesla store using a $2500 voucher, and we already had Treehouse give us a (wildly high) quote earlier, I'd like to know from someone else who has tried on if we can order and have the equipment from the Tesla store shipped directly to our home.

Reason being is that the 3rd party company Treehouse used here significantly padded the quote for an extra $5k worth of work we didn't need. We have had quotes from other electricians saying so. Some of the other electricians, including one we know personally, are working towards becoming Tesla certified installers. I'd ultimately like to use one of them to do the install, but it may take a while for them to get certified and then be available. I'd like to have the equipment in hand and ready to go before then.

If someone who orders theirs through the store using the $2500 voucher would let me know, I'd really appreciate it. Up until this point, the equipment was usually shipped to Treehouse and their contracted electrician rather than the home.

Cheers!

This is my question. If we had the equipment, do we need a certified installer still?

Following this. If anyone can use the Tesla One app to provision the universal charger, as confirmed by a member, why any different for a gateway?

Now I read the email again .. it says you need to be in CONTRACT

Below you will find your $2,500 Tesla Shop voucher. To use your voucher to purchase Powershare Home Backup equipment through the Tesla Shop, you must be in contract with a Tesla Certified Installer. If you choose not to install Powershare Home Backup equipment, you can use this voucher in a single transaction to purchase other items in the Tesla Shop up to the value of the voucher.1

I'm not sure it is still the case, but in the recent past, non-Tesla certified installers could not install them. Well, technically they could, but the equipment is kind of useless unless it is connected to your Tesla account which only the certified Tesla installers have access to set up and configure. So you'd have an expensive brick on your wall if you were somehow able to get the equipment and tried doing it yourself before.

I'm not sure that is still the case, but imagine it is. Hopefully that has changed though!

Curious about why I cannot simply replace wall connector with PowerShare capable as I already have switch and powerwalls and a 1 year old powerwall connector.

You don't need to replace your wall connector if you have Powerwalls already. You do need to wait for Powerwall compatible version of software to get released though.

While the equipment wouldn't be usable without Tesla activation, having the hardware let's you wait for a certified installer in your area to become available to do the job at a competitive price, without worrying about an expiration date.

I would seriously consider this. We have only one installer locally and they are just getting up to speed. In fact, I think I would want to wait for them to have a successful track record with some references before proceeding anyway. They seem to be a very reputable company, but my suspicion is that the obstacles they cited making the job inordinately expensive were from inexperience. I think, sensibly on their part, really wanting to learn the ropes and workarounds doing simpler jobs first.

Thank you for the advice. I went ahead and placed the order without issue. Shipping address was indeed to the home, so it looks like we'll be able to sit on it until we can find another certified installer in the area. Woot!

I am in the same boat. The installer that Tesla assigned to me gave me a ridiculously high quote. I got another quote from another Tesla installer in the area that was more reasonable. However, the email I received about the voucher has the original company listed on this as the installer that I need to contact. I would obviously like to change to the second quote company. How did you navigate this?
Thanks
