I don't know if anyone else printed the metal version of the mirror delete covers. I designed and uploaded a new trim version (_v4) which I think looks better. It extends the trim taper all the way to the edge of the door instead of stopping at the edge of the cover.

I designed a cover for the holes vacated by the side mirrors. There are two parts for each side - a cover and a trim. Together they lock it in place without requiring glue or screws. Model is located here for free download:

I have also order SS prints of the covers from In3dTec for $26 each. Will let you know how that looks. I am thinking SS for the cover and TPU for the trim would be ideal. For now I have the cover printed with PETG.

Also related. I guess the a judge will have to rule but the way I read it, removing both mirrors is legal in Arizona since even with the rearview mirror removed the drivers view to the rear of the vehicle is not obstructed thanks to the review camera. It only specifies actual mirrors for the side mirrors.

I printed this out and have a copy in my glove box.

I’d love to do this but as I understand it, in CA at least, you need a driver side mirror and one other mirror. Cameras don’t count. It has to be an actual mirror. I wonder if anyone makes minimalist mirrors that could fit in those slots, not look terrible, yet give the truck a more minimalist look.

One of my more ambitious project thoughts was to try to make such a mirror that would "pop up" using the mirror fold signal. So it sits flush most of the time but can be produced on demand (as you are pulling over ).

I've thought about removing my side mirrors, but there are safety issues that have to be addressed.

Before removing the side mirrors, I'd have to ween myself off the instinctive/subconscious reliance on them. Gradually adjusting a mirror away from the optimum viewing angle until they become useless is one way to do so. One can activate a turn signal to get a side view display when making a lane change, but I often want to check my side view before activating the turn signal. I also need a quick way to check for a car in my blind spot before making an unanticipated lane change (e.g., to avoid a collision with another car). Relying on the red LED as a blind spot check is helpful but somehow not totally satisfying. I'd probably go back to looking over my shoulder for reassurance before making a sudden lane change. I'm also concerned about the safety of removing the side mirrors and letting others drive my truck. It all boils down to wondering if I should just leave them on.

Tesla could eliminate these problems if they provided the option to display the right and left side view cameras along with the rear camera display without taking up the entire screen. I suspect they are reluctant to do so.

What I'd really like is a dedicated display of the right and left side cameras above the steering wheel like this early Aptera prototype.

I like that these are flat compared to the other version that’s more like a wedge and stupidly expensive. I agree with @Cybergirls view but would love to clean my truck up and take the mirrors off for one trip around town for some pictures and video of the clean look at night when it’d definitely look more like a space ship ?.

I just keep the cameras up all the time(*) so I see a larger rearview and both side mirrors all the time. Only thing I really lose is the map but my next turn is still displayed. Also, the camera button on the steering wheel will toggle to the map+rearview and back to the full camera view so it is easy flip back and forth.

Also, I was a bit on the fence about removing them but the thing that tipped the scales for me was realizing how much visibility they *block* when driving around town. Between the A pillars and the side mirrors it is easy to miss a pedestrian stepping into the crosswalk. So once you are used to using the camera feed I think a valid argument can be made it is safer with them removed.

I don't think so. The Model X will display the side view and rear camera views along with the map, but only because other information (e.g., speed, navigation) is displayed on the binnacle display above the steering yoke.

None that I am aware of. I think you need that rearview, though. You really don't get any visibility directly behind you with just the sideview cameras and the rearview mirror is useless.

Bummer. I think the Side Views are more critical than the Rear. If anyone has driven a panel truck or van, you simply don’t have the luxury of a Rear View.

According to this summary of state mirror requirements, only 15 states require two or more mirrors on a vehicle. A CT without side mirrors, but retaining the rear view interior mirror, meets the requirements of the remaining 35 states provided the tonneau cover is retracted. Of course, driving with the tonneau up defeats any efficiency gains by removing the side mirrors.

The intent of these laws is to insure that the driver has reasonable visibility to traffic behind and to the sides of the vehicle. As I see it, the CT meets the intent of these laws using camera displays, but having to convince a judge of that is not something I look forward to doing. There's also the matter of liability in the case of an accident. The other party's insurance company could claim that I was at fault due to not having the required mirrors on my truck.

It's almost impossible to prevent pin-striping the side mirrors when traveling off-road on brush lined trails. I already broke the plastic housing of the driver side mirror, and need to decide to replace it or not. If I get to the point of feeling safe using on the CT's camera displays in all driving situations, I'll likely remove the side mirrors like an infected appendix.
