They said I don't need any hardware but I need to run a wire from my car wall charger to my power wall. So I can charge my Powerwall from my truck?
They were not 100% sure since I am their first install.

Does this sound right?
Anyone else have the same set up and got it installed?
The will send me a price quote once they know what they are doing?

Thanks

You should not need to install anything, ASSUMING your Wall Connector is currently backed up by the Powerwall.
If it is not, its circuit will need be be moved to the backed up panel.

You'll also need to wait for Tesla to release Powerwall compatible Powershare software.

I have Tesla solar/2 Powerwall 2s, and a non-Tesla EVSE. My whole house is backed up. Car Charger Specialists were my installer. They were very good. They said that I needed the UWC + 3V Gateway, which I ordered via Tesla shop using my $2500 voucher. The UWC came to my house; the Gateway will go to Car Charger Specialists. Meanwhile, CCS decided to use hardware from their inventory to expedite the install with the understanding that I will send them the UWC. Install labor was $2550.

The 3V Gateway is upstream of my old Gateway, as is the UWC. This means that the UWC is independent of my solar/Powerwalls setup. Thus, I can charge my CT without impacting the Powerwalls. I have not yet been able to test Powershare.

I have seen the Powershare icon on the app briefly before it disappeared, taking with it Charge On Solar. I suppose that means that I must wait.

how many man hours did they spend installing?
I thought you don't need v3 gateway if you already have a powerwall?

I’m in the process of getting a quote. As of now they are saying they can’t install the Powerwall 3 and the PowerShare and make it all work with each other.
I have solar and a backup generator, but still they said it’s not compatible at this time with the Powerwall and power share.
what am I missing? So if I already had the Powerwall I couldn’t use it? I’m totally lost.
also I have 2 gen 3 wall chargers running on wireless PowerShare and he said I needed to change one of the wall chargers to the UWC to make the PowerShare work. Is this also true? Lot of information I’m getting from the installer that I thought i was told differently.
anyone with real world info would be great to get.

Huh?
You didn't need to get a UWC and you really didn't need a second Gateway. That will really confuse your Powerwalls since Powershare will look like the grid being up, but without the expected capacity.
Unless it's in parallel to the original Gateway in which case the 3V is just an expensive breaker panel.

If it's a stand alone Powershare installation (no Powerwalls) you need the UWC to power the Gateway 3V during a dark startup.

Powershare is designed to export only if it's the only source or (once the software is ready) in concert with Powerwalls when the grid is down. However, I think it can work with limited solar since the Gateway knows the grid is disconnected, assuming the solar inverter and it play nice with each other.

A generator likely lacks the regulation and frequency stability to work with Powershare.

You don't need the v3 gateway if already have a gateway and powerwall. Key is on a grid loss the gateway separates you from grid, and powerwall provides AC power to you panel that your UWC is on.

Software will then be available to coordinate your truck to provide power to the panel it's on and loads on that same panel to the max you have available via that breaker in reverse as AC current.

We are just waiting on the software update by end of year it was stated.

V3 gateway would be a waste in this scenario and redundant, even cause complexity issues/slowness returning to the grid when comes back up

Watch the video . I think if your Universal Charger is wired to the same panel as your powerwall, all you need is the software installed. I just installed a Powerwall 3 and the Powershare installed is researching what to do.

We had QMerit (or a subcontractor of a subcontractor) come by yesterday too, same story basically, I have the same hardware as you @jditom. They said they'd just finished training, and had 20 of these projects in the DFW area, but the training didn't cover installation with an existing Powerwall....hmmm...

they were nice guys, but it's so clear that the training or information coming out of Tesla is either very poor, or just delivered poorly by whomever they've outsourced to.

The quote, which was to move a few breakers and install the UWC (I can do it, but for something like this I'd rather a pro did it) was $2700. The QMerit website is a bit crap though, you can either accept or decline a quote, but you can't make any comments. They have standard line-items that don't fully apply (i.e. one included up to 20ft of 80amp cable, which we don't need). In my case, I want to make sure that the 'contract' includes them adding our system to Powershare, as I know others have had issues where that wasn't done by the installer.

For such an important feature, Tesla have really dropped the ball on properly communicating it.

I already have 2 gen 3 wall connectors with the wireless power share on them. They said the Gen 3 with a firmware flash can do what the UWC does. So they are just using the existing wire for the WC gen 3 and taking it off the main panel and moving it to the gateway. Well I think that’s what he said, but that’s the general idea I got.

Is it a really recent Powershare compatible Gen 3? I ask because there is a pair of small gauge wires that need to run from the WC to Gateway to power the Gateway when starting from full off. Older units didn't have that.

He also said if there is a problem he will swap out one of my gen 3 WC for the UWC. But he was still verifying that the Gen 3 will work or not. Guessing this was just something that would take 5 minutes to swap out he might have just added a buffer to the quote just in case?
As for the age of my WC one is about 3 years old and the other is 6 months old.
